Kumail Nanjiani Goes for Uber Ride with Dave Bautista in ‘Stuber’ Trailer

It’s one hell of an Uber ride for Kumail Nanjiani with Dave Bautista in ‘Stuber’ trailer. The 20th Century Fox has revealed the first trailer of their buddy action-comedy ‘Stuber.’ The movie features an Uber driver named Stu, played by Nanjiani, who ‘is picked up’ by a hunky LAPD cop on a mission to hunt down a dangerous criminal, and the hilarious haywire follows.

Directed by Michael Dowse, who is known for ‘Goon,’ ‘Stuber‘ has Kumail Nanjiani and Dave Bautista playing an odd driver-cop duo who is entangled with the hot trail of a murderous drug pusher. The plot follows Stu, (Stu + Uber!), a simpleton weakling who drives an Uber car part-time to earn money to invest in the spin class venture of his love interest.

Stu gets an unlikely passenger when Vic, played by Bautista, a tough cop who just had LASIK surgery, orders an Uber. Due to his surgery, Vic can’t drive a car, and his boss is going to remove him from of the case. In order to secure his reputation and job, Vic has no other option but to take things to his hand.

The result is a roller-coaster ride of shootouts, hot women, night bars, flying cars, exploding SUVs, a male strip club, an emergency vet clinic, and a Sriracha factory. The duo desperately chases the criminal mastermind, Teijo who is on the run. The odd couple dynamics between Nanjiani and Bautista is the strength of the movie. They steal the show with amazing timing, onscreen chemistry and comedic vibes.

The interesting factor about the movie is that Vic and Stu are two extremes of human nature. While Vic shoves his thumb into a bullet wound of a baddie to make him talk, Stu faints on the spot at the sight of blood! Yet, they find a common thing that binds them together, make them take care of each other when their lives are in grave danger.

Iko Uwais, who is known for the action ultimatum, ‘The Raid,’ plays Teijo. Vic has a personal score to settle with him, which adds more thrill to the hunt. The R-rated comedy garnered positive reviews when it was shown at SXSW. ‘Stuber’ also features Natalie Morales, Betty Gilpin, Jimmy Tatro, Mira Sorvino, and Karen Gillan in key roles. Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley produced the movie.

‘Stuber’ also features some hilarious moments. When the hunky Vic charges into the car and tells Stu, ‘official police business,’ the by-the-book driver Stu rolls his eyes. Later, we learn that Stu is known for maintaining high customer service rating. Apparently, Vic seems to choose ‘UberPool’ option because two women get in the backseat. Vic throws them out ignoring Stu’s protests. In the midst of a fiery exchange of gunshots, Vic tells Stu to take a small handgun. ‘Oh, I am not touching that,’ says a panic-stricken Stu. ‘It’s a baby gun. it allows you to fire it while crying,’ replies Vic!

‘Stuber’ is the first R-rated comedy distributed by Disney after the 2013 movie ‘The Fifth Estate.’ The movie had its world premiere at SXSW in March.
