We have been falling in love with feel-good family series for decades now. Stories consisting of lovable, goofy characters with mismatched views on life, all living under the same roof in harmony have been the beating heart of many drama series on television. It all started around the late ’90s with the Happy Days(1974-1984) and Different Strokes(1978-1986). Characters that were relatable and had the same daily struggles as we did, spoke to us, made us laugh and cry as they lived, loved, learned and grew. ‘Last Man Standing’ also falls under the same category of shows: family-centric comedy-drama. It revolves around Mike Baxter, who is a married man and a father of three daughters who could not be more different from each other and a grandfather to his eldest daughter’s son.
Last Man Standing first premiered in 2011 and has been through quite a roller coaster ride. It started its run on ABC and continued there from 2011-2017, for six seasons, and entered broadcasting syndication in 2015 which gives the series right to broadcast the program by multiple stations, without going through one network. It was disclosed in May 2017 by media publications that the series won’t be picked up for a new season by the network despite it being ranked as the second highest rated sitcom on ABC for the year 2016-17. That’s when Fox picked up the show, but ABC was reluctant to cover the production cost of the series on behalf of Fox as the contract between ABC and 20th Century Fox Television had expired after six seasons.
Despite all the hiccups, Last Man Standing still stands its ground and has been renewed for yet another season. Here’s everything we know about it.
Last Man Standing Cast: Who’s in it?
The show stars Tim Allen as Michael or “Mike” Baxter a senior employee at a sporting goods store in Colorado. He is the father of three and the marketing director of the store Outdoor Man who is old school and supports traditional values. He is tough on the outside but has a soft heart as most fathers do.
Nancy Travis stars as Vanessa Baxter, Mike’s Wife who is a geologist and goes through a career shift from working in an energy industry to a teacher and finally a tutor. She is known for her bad puns and is the glue that holds her family together.
Amanda Fuller (season 2- present) and Alexandra Krosney (season 1) play the eldest daughter Kristin Beth Baxter. Krosney was replaced by fuller without any clear, specific reasons. Kristen is a single mother who got pregnant out-of-wedlock in her senior year of high school and gave birth to her son Boyd. Kristen has also had quite a journey from living in her parent’s house to finally moving out in season 2 finale. She reconciles and gets married to Boyd’s father between seasons four and five and finally finds her feet when she becomes the manager of an upscale restaurant in season 5.
