Masamune-kun no Revenge Season 2: Premiere Date, Characters, Plot

Masamune-kun no Revenge is a Japanese romantic comedy anime television series which is based on a manga series of the same name. Written by Hazuki Takeoka and illustrated by Tiv, the manga series was first published on October 27, 2012, and saw its final volume being published on June 27, 2018.

Meanwhile, owing to its popularity, on June 23, 2016, publisher Ichijinsha announced that the manga would receive an anime television series adaptation. The anime is produced by Silver Link and directed by Mirai Minato based on the script by Michiko Yokote and Kento Shimoyama. Yuki Sawairi designed the characters. Toshiki Kameyama is the series’ sound director while Lantis produced the music. The opening theme is performed by Ayaka Ohashi titled “Wagamama Mirror Heart”. Season 1 of the show premiered in January 2017 and was a hit among fans of the manga series and new viewers alike, and since then, viewers have been eagerly waiting for news on Season 2. Here’s everything we know about the prospects of Season 2 thus far.

Masamune-kun no Revenge Season 2 Release Date: When will it premiere?

Masamune-kun no Revenge season 1 premiered on January 5, 2017, and the season finale was aired on March 23, 2017. A year later, on July 27, 2018, an original video animation (OVA) special episode was released, much to the delight of fans.

However, as of now, Season 2 has not been confirmed. This is indeed surprising, considering the fact that Season 1 ended with a cliffhanger, thereby indicating that the show makers indeed had a second season in mind. Further, there’s plenty of source material for several seasons, so we don’t see any reason for the show getting canceled. That being said, there’s no reason to panic right now since anime shows often have long gaps between successive seasons. Our best guess is that Masamune-kun no Revenge season 2 release date could fall sometime in 2020 or 2021. We will update this section as soon as we hear more.

Masamune-kun no Revenge Plot:

As the name of the show indicates, it’s a revenge tale, albeit a hilarious one for teenagers.

The show revolves around a boy called Masamune Makabe, who fell in love with a rich and beautiful girl called Aki Adagaki when he was a child. However, Masamune was not the most attractive back then, and was rejected by Aki, who also nicknamed him “Piggy” for his chubby appearance.

Devastated by the rejection, Masamune worked hard to improve his physique and looks, and managed to transform himself into a handsome teenager. With his incredible looks, Masamune is quite the charmer in high school, but things quickly take a turn in his life when he is transferred to Aki’s high school.

When Masamune changes schools, he finds that his childhood crush, Aki, is his classmate. Then and there, Masamune makes up his mind to exact revenge on Aki, and he plans to make her fall madly in love with him and then break her heart. However, this turns out to be much more difficult than he anticipates.

Known as the “Brutal Princess”, Aki is not an easy catch, and Masamune’s initial efforts to try and get her to fall in love with him fail miserably. These initial failures prompt Masamune to double his efforts as he becomes even more determined to exact revenge. After several efforts, Masamune ends up befriending Aki’s classmate and servant, Yoshino Koiwai, and uses her to get close to Aki.

However, when Masamune succeeds in befriending Aki and getting close to her, he begins to question the morality of his devious plan, and starts to wonder whether revenge on Aki is actually worth it.

Masamune-kun no Revenge Characters:

Being a story on the love-hate relationship between Masamune and Aki, there are only two main characters in the show. Below, we’ve given you a brief background on each of them.

[WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD]

Masamune Makabe: The male protagonist of the show, Masamune was a chubby little boy when he fell in love with Aki for the first time. After getting rejected and humiliated, Masamune put all his efforts into transforming his physical appearance, and grew up to become an incredibly handsome high school student. With his dashing appearance, Masamune becomes quite the charmer and grows narcissistic in high school. Yet, for all his apparent coolness, he is shown to be extremely afraid of spiders, and when in the presence of one, he often screams like a little girl.

Aki Adagaki: The female protagonist of the show, Aki is a rich and beautiful girl who has a reputation for treating all boys like dirt. She is also known to give any boy who asks her out nasty nicknames. Being a rich and spoiled brat, Aki is extremely reliant on her maid and classmate, Yoshino Koiwai, but doesn’t treat her very well. She is also shown to have a massive appetite, and this often causes her a lot of embarrassment. While Masamune blames Aki for rejecting him, Aki maintains that it was Masamune who ditched her and disappeared despite his promise to be by her side at all times. When her entire episode with Masamune was unfolding, Aki’s parents were contemplating divorce and she was going through a rough time. Her heart was broken after Masamune ditched her, and it is shown that she is still in search of the kind of man Masamune had promised her he would be.

Yoshino Koiwai: While not a main character, Yoshino is extremely important to the show, and is the key to the dispute between Masamune and Makabe. While she helps Masamune gets close to Aki in high school, she later confesses that she is jealous of the friendship between the two. Further, it is revealed that Yoshino is also the cause for the dispute between Masamune and Aki – when Masamune was in love with Aki and had promised her the world, Yoshino had disguised herself as Aki, had rejected Masamune, and had given him the nickname “Piggy”.
