How did Meek Mill earn his wealth and money?

Meek Mill – Robert Rihmeek Williams – is an American rapper and songwriter born in the south of Philadelphia on 6th May 1987. He started his music career as a battle rapper when he was a teenager; he used to stay up late nights to write various phrases and verses in his diary. Later, he created a rap group by the name of The Bloodhoundz, but it did not take for too long and only released four mixtapes. Mill had been developing mixtapes since the 2000s, but he only started gaining recognition when he released a new mixtape in 2007 called “Flamers”.

Mill released his fourth solo mixtape by the name “Flamers 2: Hottest in Tha City” which had three promotional singles – “Prolli”, “Hottest in the City”, and “I’m So Fly”. This mixtape captivated the founder and President of 215 Aphillyated Records, Charlie Mack. As a result, Mill was signed on by the label. That same year, Mill met T.I. who was an Atlanta-based rapper, and founder and owner of Grand Hustle Records. Mill left a good impression on T.I. and was offered a meeting with him and Warner Bros. Records. After one week, Mill had great offers from both the labels. Mill decided to join Grand Hustle.

While with Grand Hustle, Mill met DJ Drama, whom he partnered up with to release the third part of his Flamers series. This mixtape was named “Flamers 3: The Wait Is Over”, and was released in 2010. It is deemed a “Gangsta Grillz mixtape”. Unfortunately, Mill could never release an album under the banner of Grand Hustle Records because he was sentenced to seven months in prison on account of drugs and gun possession. He was released in 2009 on probation, and sometime later, he parted ways with Grand Hustle. In 2011, he went on to sign with Rick Ross’s Maybach Music Group (MMG). And in 2012, his debut album came out – “Dreams and Nightmares” – and reached number two on the Billboard 200, U.S. During the first week, it sold 165,000 copies and in the second, 41,000.

In October 2012, Mill declared that he was launching his very own label imprint called Dream Chasers Records, named after his mixtape series. (Four editions released over a span of 5 years from 2011 to 2016.) Meek Mill often creates collaborations with fellow MMG label-mates. He has also appeared on MMG’s Self Made series which featured his first two singles – “Tupac Back” and “Ima Boss”. In November 2017, Mill was sent to the prison for two to four years on account of parole violation. He is currently placed at the State Correctional Institution – Chester in Chester, Pennsylvania.

Mill released his next mixtape, “Dreams Worth More Than Money”, in 2015, topping the Billboard 200. Then came out his third album, “Wins & Losses”, in 2017, which has sold 320,000 copies as of yet. Meek Mill has received several awards during his career. Till now, he has won the BET Hip-Hop award for Best Mixtape for “Dreamchasers 2”; has been nominated for Best New Artist, and the Best Hip-Hop Track of the Year – “Ima Boss” – at BET awards in 2012. In 2016, he won the Billboard Music Award for Top Rap Album for “Dreams Worth More Than Money”.
