Mike Ditka, born on October 18 in 1939, is a former professional American football player and has also served as the coach and television commentator. A part of both the College Football in 1986 and Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1988, he was the UPI NFL Rookie of Year in 1961.  Mike started playing football when he was in school and won many championships and awards in his adult career. Throwing light on his playing career, as soon as he signed with the Chicago Bears, his presence was immediately felt. In his first season with Chicago Bears, Ditka’s performance improved and he became the focal point of his competitors.

Mike scored twelve touchdowns, which was the most by any rookie Bear. His success in football helped him in receiving many Rookie of the Year honors. He played for Bears for almost 5 years, getting a Pro Bowl trip each season. Ditka played on the NFL championship team in 1963. During his contract, the Cowboys reached the playoffs about eight times, won titles of 6 divisions, 3 Championships of NFC and a Super Bowl victory in 1977.

While working as a coach with the Cowboys, Ditka sent a letter to George Halas, the owner of the Chicago Bears, expressing his desire to work again with the Chicago Bears as the head coach. Under the charge of Ditka, the Cowboys continued to record their wins except for the Super Bowl.
