7 Movies Like Stargirl You Must See

Stargirl‘ is a 2020 original film by Disney+ based on a similarly-titled novel by Jerry Spinelli. The film centers around a girl called Susan “Stargirl” Caraway who joins Mica High School in Arizona and only manages to make one friend- the shy and outcast teenager called Leo Borlock.

Although many students of the school do not take a liking to Susan because of her eccentricities, Leo is the only one who becomes a close friend of hers. The film explores the relationship between Leo and Susan, and the effects she has on the people of the school. 7. Noelle (2019)

Starring Anna Kendrick, ‘Noelle‘ is a beautiful Christmas story by Disney. The film centers around a family comprising of Kris Kringle, his daughter Noelle and his son Nick. Kris works as Santa Claus during Christmas and when he cannot continue in his profession anymore, it falls upon Nick to continue the legacy.

However, Nick proves to be a shy person not ready for the job. This is when Noelle steps up to keep the family tradition alive. Although the film is fun to watch and Kendrick does a brilliant job, the film’s plot is not that great.

6. Invisible Sister (2015)

A fantasy Disney film, ‘Invisible Sister’ is the story of a girl called Cleo who accidentally creates a rather unique vapor that has the ability to turn things invisible. While Cleo is excited about her new discovery, she finds herself in some deep trouble when the vapor ends up turning her sister invisible.

With a very limited amount of time on her hands, Cleo must try to find a cure if she wants her sister back. Although the film is based on an element of fantasy, the story is essentially about two sisters who get to know each other better by the end.

5. Diary Of A Wimpy Kid (2010)

Based on a similarly-titled book written by Jeff Kinney, ‘Diary Of A Wimpy Kid’ is the story of an 11-year-old boy called Greg who is about to begin middle school. Greg finds it hard to connect with people and only has a select set of friends with whom he hangs.

Greg has an eagerness to be popular and thus tries out various things in order to get some fame. However, these things always find him in one embarrassing situation or another. Although the film is warm, funny, and sticks to the story, it does not have the inherent charm of the original text.

4. Lemonade Mouth (2011)

A fun story filled with the joys of celebration, ‘Lemonade Mouth’ is a film centering around a group of high school teenagers who have formed a musical group of their own, and want to challenge an already established rock band. These students want to form a group that gives voice to the outcasts of the school.

As a homage to the iconic high school film ‘The Breakfast Club‘, members of this band also meet during detention. Although the film is about honesty and joy and the beauty of music, do not expect anything more insightful from it.

‘Read It And Weep’ stars Danielle Panabaker and her sister Kay. The central character of the story is a high school girl called Jamie, who is extremely shy despite being quite sharp for her age. She spends most of her days sitting quietly by herself and writing in her personal journal.

When Jamie is in such a situation in her life, her alter ego Isabella comes to the rescue and turns her fortune around. While Danielle Panabaker went on to become a TV star, her sister Kay is not in the entertainment industry anymore.

2. Dadnapped (2009)

‘Dadnapped’ is the story of a girl called Melissa who is always craving for some attention from her father, who is a fiction writer for teenagers. He is more interested in the teenage female spy he has created than in his own daughter.

However, when he gets “dadnapped”, it falls upon his daughter Melissa to solve the puzzle and rescue him from the grips of danger. A fine teenage movie with just the right amount of fun and adventure, ‘Dadnapped’ is a fun watch for people of all ages.

An original film by the Disney Channel, ‘Geek Charming’ centers around Dylan Schoenfield and Josh Rosen. While Dylan is a popular and very attractive girl trying to win a beauty contest, Josh is a film geek who wants to make a documentary.

When one day Josh helps Dylan find her bag, he requests her to be the subject of his documentary as a favor. Dylan agrees to the proposal, and what takes place after that, is basically what the film is about. The film is an emotional rollercoaster that Disney fans will just love watching.
