5. Sicario (2015)
The film is about a principled FBI agent. He is enlisted by the government to bring down the leader of a powerful and brutal Mexican drug cartel. Starring the versatile Emily Blunt and Benecio Del Toro, with an equally stellar supporting cast including Josh Brolin and Jon Bernthal. The film was met with critical and commercial acclaim. The engrossing action and the gripping direction are ably complimented by equally good acting and writing. The depiction of Juarez did attract criticism. For convoluting the reality with unexpected plot twists and surreal characters, the film is a sure winner.

4. Hotel Rwanda (2004)
The film is a dramatization of the story of Hotel Rwanda and its manager Paul Rusesabagina. The plot focuses on the mass genocide of native Tutsis at the hands of vengeful Hutus. And the administrations’ incompetency to neutralize the threat. The film delves heavily with political corruption, genocide and repercussions of violence. The film premiered to critical acclaim with Don Cheadle giving his best performance till date. The vivid depiction of the horrifying incidents and the issue of bribery to top Army officials for safety by Paul make the film one hell of a ride and a spine-chilling peek into the atrocious acts of humanity.

3. American Sniper (2014)
Navy S.E.A.L. sniper Chris Kyle’s pinpoint accuracy saves countless lives on the battlefield. Which ultimately turns him into an army legend. When he’s back home with his wife and kids, he finds that he cannot leave the war behind. Director Clint Eastwood used a familiar story and turned it into something fresh and amazing. American Sniper not only has an amazing cinematography but also has a touching music score and incredible sound effects. Additionally, it has a marvelous lead performance by Bradley Cooper.

2. Spotlight (2015)
There have been very few movies since Schindler’s List which have moved me the way Spotlight did. It tells the tale of The Boston Globes’ investigation team Spotlight. And their subsequent inquiry into cases of widespread child sex abuse in Boston by Roman Catholic priests. The heavily expounded and researched subject matter with the intricate story line make it a compelling watch. The movie went on to win the Best Picture Oscar as well, making it a critical success. Words don’t do justice the evocative and provocative performances the film features by its lead cast. Names like Michael Keaton, Mark Ruffalo, Rachel McAdams, Stanley Tucci and John Slattery astound us. Do watch this one!

The Hurt Locker follows a Sergeant recently assigned to an army bomb squad during the Iraq War. He is put at odds with his teammates due to his eccentric way of handling his work. Jeremy Renner produces an electrifying performance. As the leader of his squadron who is commanding, authoritative and who holds a lot of dignity inside him.
Winner of six Academy Awards, including “Best Motion Picture” and “Best Achievement in Directing”.The Hurt Locker is full of suspense and is directed beautifully by Kathryn Bigelow. The movie truly captures the Iraq War. It honors unrecognized heroes like the technicians of the bombs squads who risked lives to save others.
