The CW’s teen thriller, ‘Nancy Drew’, which is based on the eponymous book series, featuring the titular redhead sleuth, is set in the fictional town of Horseshoe Bay, Maine. The hybrid of a horror cum mystery drama was a much-anticipated series among fans who have grown up reading the popular literary works, featuring the classic heroine.

Drawing comparisons with ‘Riverdale‘, the first season of ‘Nancy Drew’ managed to meet the expectations of viewers. With a murder at the center and some spooky jump scares, the story contains all the elements of an engaging mystery. If you are a fan of the show, you must be wondering when will ‘Nancy Drew’ season 2 release? Let’s find out.

Nancy Drew Season 2 Release Date: When Will It Premiere?

‘Nancy Drew’ season 1 premiered on October 9, 2019, on The CW.

Although the freshman installment was originally commissioned for 22 episodes, it had to be truncated to 18 episodes because of the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic. ‘The Clue in the Captain’s Painting’ was supposed to serve as the spring finale, with four more episodes scheduled in the upcoming months. However, due to the unavoidable health crisis, season 1 wrapped up earlier with its 18th episode on April 15, 2020.

On a positive note, the showrunners have confirmed that the intended story arc from the first season will be continued in season 2. Yes, you heard it right! ‘Nancy Drew’ was already renewed for its next edition in January 2020. As for a release date, it is too early to predict anything yet — considering everything is on hold because of the Corona lockdown. Normally it would have premiered as a part of The CW’s 2020 fall line-up but under the current conditions, filming might get delayed. We expect ‘Nancy Drew’ season 2 to release sometime in 2021.

Nancy Drew Season 2 Cast: Who Can Be In It?

The cast of ‘Nancy Drew’ is led by Kennedy McMann as Nancy Drew, Leah Lewis as Georgia Fan aka George,
Maddison Jaizani as Bess Marvin, Tunji Kasim as Ned Nickerson, Alex Saxon as Ace, Riley Smith as Ryan Hudson, and Scott Wolf as Carson Drew. It has already been confirmed that all of the main actors will return for season 2. We also expect some new additions, depending on which mysteries the show will tackle in the upcoming season.

Nancy Drew Season 2 Plot: What Can It Be About?

Season 1 follows Nancy and crew as they team up to solve the murder of Tiffany Hudson. In the finale, the gang deals with the aftermath of Owen’s shocking and tragic death. It ends on a major cliffhanger and although it was not the originally planned conclusion, it still serves as a satisfying end to the arc. Yes, there are questions left to be answered and showrunners Melinda Hsu Taylor and Noga Landau have confirmed that all of the hanging threads will be resolved in season 2.

The upcoming season will also delve deeper into Nancy’s psyche as she deals with the grief following Owen’s demise. There will additionally be plenty of supernatural elements. Landau’s interview with the EW sheds further light on what to expect from the next installment. She said: “There will always be a supernatural presence in the show. It can come in many forms. It will always be rooted in something human and earthbound that’s happening in Nancy’s life and Horseshoe Bay as a town. We’re going to keep delving deeper and deeper into that genre aspect of the show as we move into season 2.”

Additionally, the future episodes will explore Aglaeca’s story further and will focus on Nancy’s emotional dilemma after she discovers that she is not Carson Drew’s biological daughter. She has learned in season 1 that her real parents are Ryan Hudson and Lucy Sable. Again, Carson will attempt to put together his law practice and of course, there will be several more mysteries to explore in Horseshoe Bay!
