Nelly, Born on 2 November 1974 in Austin, Texas, is also known as Cornell Iral Haynes Jr. He moved St. Louis to Missouri with his mother after their parents divorced. Nelly enjoyed local popularity with a hip-hop group named “St. Lunatics” that he formed in year 1993. Nelly was signed by A&R Kevin Law with Universal Music Group despite of negative reviews regarding the rapper. Nelly and Universal Music Group did not wait much for the rapper’s success as his debut album “Country Grammar” was a hit and it debuted on #3 on the Billboard 200. Album’s title track which was Nelly’s single made it to #7 on the Hot 100 and No. 1 Hot Rap Tracks. It also featured St. Lunatics with “Batter Up” other singles from City Spud. The album was certified 9 Platinum by the RIAA on April 27, 2004.

With Nelly’s number one hit single “Hot in Herre” for which he won Grammy Award for Best Male Rap Solo Performance in 2003, his second album Nellyville debuted again at No. 1 on Billboard’s Top 200 Music Albums, making it a big success selling more than 7.6 million records worldwide. The album was certified 6 Platinum and was a big success as well. Nelly also won the Grammy Award for Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group for his another number-one hit, “Shake YaTailfeather” from the Bad Boys II soundtrack album, featuring Diddy and Murphy Lee in the year 2004.

Nelly’s success furthered with his two new albums both released in September 2004 one was “Sweat” an R&B-oriented album and “Suit” a rap-oriented album. Both debuted great on Billboard albums Chart debuting on number one and number two respectively. Nelly was a part of 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake benefit concert Tsunami Aid: A Concert for Hop. Further in the year 2008, he released his next album “Brass Knuckles” featuring “Wadsyaname”, a single produced by Ron “NEFF-U” Feemstar and “All My Life” by K-Ci&JoJo. He also appeared with artists like Ciara, Akon, Ashanti and Rick Ross.

Nelly released him another album titled “5.0” in November 2010, after much delay mainly due to the death of his cousin Michael Johnson who was murdered in Missouri. The album saw features from many guests that included T-Pain, Chris Brown, Akon,  DJ Khaled, Avery Storm and Diddy-Dirty Money. The album featured his single “Just a Dream” which was his highest-charting song since his 2005 single “Grillz”. This single debuted at number 7 on the Billboard Rap Songs. It debuted in Australia (ARIA Charts) on the Singles Chart at number 3.

Nelly became a coach on The Next: Fame Is at Your Doorstep, a show on The CW Television Network alongside Gloria Estefan, John Rich and Joe Jonas. He endorsed brands like Nike and Reebok and featured in movies like the 2005 remake of The Longest Yard and in 2001 an independent film Snipes.
