Netflix’s Marilyn Monroe Biopic ‘Blonde’ Finalizes its Cast

The upcoming Netflix movie ‘Blonde’ has finalized its full cast. Adrien Brody, Bobby Cannavale, and Julianne Nicholson are the latest big names to join the film, which is based on the iconic American actress and singer, Marilyn Monroe. The actors are going to appear alongside Ana de Armas, who is stepping into the role of Monroe herself. Brody is likely to play the role of Arthur Miller while Cannavale is likely to play the part of Joe DiMaggio. The other actors who are involved in the project are Caspar Phillipson, known for appearing in ‘Jackie’, Lily Fisher, of ‘General Hospital’ fame, Evan Williams, famous for appearing in ‘Versailles’, and Xavier Samuel, known for ‘Adore’. Along with them are Toby Huss, Sara Paxton, and David Warshofsky. ‘Blonde’ is currently headed into production in Los Angeles.

Andrew Dominik, who is famous for ‘The Assassination of Jesse James’, is helming the project which is based on a script written by him. Brad Pitt, Dede Gardner, and Jeremy Kleiner are on board as the producers along with Tracey Landon and Scott Robertson.

For those unaware, ‘Blonde’ is based on the novel of the same name, written by Joyce Carol Oates. It boldly reimagines the world of Marilyn Monroe, the most famous sex symbol of the world. The story deals with her private life. The film will seek to provide a fictional account of Monroe, known for works like ‘Some Like It Hot’, during the 50s and 60s. Interestingly, the tale will be told through the modern lens of celebrity culture, making ‘Blonde’ extremely topical.

Andrew Dominik had been working on the Marilyn Monroe project for a long time and was looking for the perfect actress to cast in the role of the protagonist. The Cuban born Ana de Armas managed to impress everyone along with Dominik, with her performance in ‘Blade Runner 2049’. However, the director insisted that she take classes to make her diction similar to Monroe’s, before casting her. With Dominik’s attention to detail, ‘Blonde’ certainly looks promising.

Coming to the stellar cast of the project, Ana De Armas has a busy schedule ahead of her. She is going to appear in ‘Deep Water’, an erotic thriller that stars Ben Affleck. We previously reported about the story which revolves around an attractive couple in a loveless marriage, for whom things go south due to their mind games. Apart from that, she is going to appear in the new Bond movie, ‘No Time To Die‘. Cannavale will next be seen in Martin Scorsese’s ‘The Irishman’ which will make its premiere at the New York Film Festival before heading to Netflix. Brody will next be seen in Wes Anderson’s ‘The French Dispatch’.
