9. Toy Story 4 (2019)

Toy Story 4’ is the fourth installment in Pixar’s ‘Toy Story’ film franchise. The 3D animated comedy is a direct sequel to ‘Toy Story 3’ (2010). Tom Hanks leads the returning cast by lending his voice to the iconic character of Sheriff Woody. Other members in the voice cast include Tim Allen as Buzz Lightyear, Tony Hale as Forky, Jordan Peele as Bunny, Christina Hendricks as Gabby Gabby, Keanu Reeves as Duke Caboom, and Joan Cusack as Jessie. The plot follows Forky, a new toy that Bonnie has created, who goes through an identity crisis. He escapes Bonnie’s room one day and sets out to find answers for questions that haunt him. When Sheriff Woody learns that Forky is missing, he embarks on a road trip along with his friends to find and bring back Forky before he stumbles upon any dangers. ‘Toy Story 4’ is directed by Josh Cooley from a script by Stephany Folsom and Andrew Stanton. The movie is slated for a June 21, 2019 release.

8. A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood (2019)

Tom Hanks plays the role of Fred Rogers, the multi-faceted television personality who shot to fame with the television series ‘Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood’ in the upcoming movie ‘A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood.’ Billed as a biographical drama, the film also features Matthew Rhys as the cynical journalist Lloyd Vogel. When Vogel gets an assignment to write an Esquire profile of Rogers, he accepts it with reluctance. But when the two men start to interact with each other, Rogers changes Vogel’s perspective of himself and towards the world. Lloyd Vogel is reportedly based on the real-life journalist Tom Junod. Cris Cooper also plays a major role in the movie. ‘A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood’ is directed by Marielle Heller from a script by Micah Fitzerman-Blue and Noah Harpster. The film is expected to hit theaters on November 22, 2019.

7. BIOS (2020)

The upcoming sci-fi flick ‘BIOS’ stars Tom Hanks and Celeb Landry Jones. The plot revolves around the last man on Earth named Finch (Hanks). He is apprehensive about the life of his pet dog after his death. So, he creates a humanoid robot to take care of the dog in his absence. But he has to teach and train the robot the human ways of taking care of their beloved things. Along with the robot and his beloved dog, Finch embarks on a trip that evolves into a deeply touching, emotional journey. Jones plays the role of the humanoid robot. ‘BIOS’ is directed by Miguel Sapochnik from a script by Craig Luck and Ivor Powell. The movie is scheduled for an October 2, 2020 release.

6. Untitled Elvis Presley Project (TBA)

Tom Hanks is reportedly in talks to join the upcoming untitled biopic of the legendary Elvis Presley. The actor will play the character of Col. Tom Parker, the manager who played a crucial role in shaping up Elvis’ life as a musical legend. But the actor hasn’t confirmed the deal yet. The Warner Bros. movie is directed by Baz Luhrmann who is known for ‘The Great Gatsby’ and ‘Moulin Rouge!’ The actor to play Elvis has not been cast yet. The plot reportedly focuses on Elvis’ meteoric rise to fame and his relationship with Parker. Both of them met in the ‘50s when Elvis was an 18-year-old aspiring singer. Luhrmann co-wrote the script with Craig Pearce. The movie is rumored to start rolling in the fall of 2019.

5. A Man Called Ove (TBA)

‘A Man Called Ove’ is an adaptation of the internationally best-selling novel of the same name by Fredrik Backman. Apart from playing the lead role in the movie adaptation, Tom Hanks produces the project along with Gary Goetzman for Playtone. The plot revolves around a troublemaker widower whose suicide attempts turn out to be misadventures. Soon, after an interracial couple and their kids move to his neighborhood, his life turns upside down.

4. No Better Place to Die (TBA)

Tom Hanks teams up with the war movie veteran Dale Dye to executive productive the World War II movie, ‘No Better Place to Die.’ The plot brings back the brutal airborne assault on D-Day with all the breathtaking details while a group of paratroopers seizes a crucial bridge and prevent the counter-attacking German forces from reaching the landing beaches in June 1944. Their brave defense that lasted three long days saved Allied forces from a total wipe-out in Normandy.

3. Beautiful (TBA)

‘Beautiful’ is a long-gestating adaptation of the Broadway hit, ‘Beautiful: The Carole King Musical.’ The plot centers on the popular singer and songwriter Carole King’s rise to fame and life at the zenith of her career. The movie is based on a book by Douglas McGrath. ‘Beautiful’ will be produced by Tom Hanks along with Gary Goetzman for Playtone and Paul Blake. Sherry Kondor and Christine Russell will executive produce the movie. Other details about the film haven’t been revealed yet.

2. Greyhound (2020)

The upcoming World War II movie ‘Greyhound’ features Tom Hanks in the lead role of the U.S. Navy Commander Ernest Krause. The plot revolves around an American Navy mission to lead an international convoy of a fleet across the deceptive waters of the North Atlantic. The Navy Destroyer Greyhound has to challenge the notorious German U-boats to guide the 37 ships of the Allied forces through the dangerous North Atlantic channel. Though Hanks’ lead role is still uncertain, he serves as a writer and producer of the movie, reports THR. Directed by Aaron Schneider, ‘Greyhound’ also stars Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, Elisabeth Shue, Stephen Graham, and Rob Morgan. Previously slated for a March 22, 2019 release, the movie is now pushed back to May 8, 2020, by Sony Pictures.

‘In the Garden of Beasts’ is an upcoming World War II film from StudioCanal and Playtone Productions. Based on the true story of William Dodd, a gentle professor from Chicago who becomes the first U.S. ambassador to Nazi Germany reeling under the iron grip of Hitler’s Third Reich. Dodd lands Berlin during the early days of World War II along with his family. When he learns about the brutalities and crimes against Jews which are on the rise, he presses the panic button to alarm the U.S. State Department. But his warnings are met with indifference. Gradually, Dodd realizes the shocking truth that he is witnessing one of the cruelest genocides in the history of humankind.

According to Variety, Tom Hanks will most likely play the role of William Dodd. The actor also serves as a producer of the movie, which will be directed by Joe Wright. Hank produces the film along with Gary Goetzman under their banner, Playtone. ‘In the Garden of Beasts’ is adapted from the 2011 book of the same name by Erik Larson. The movie was previously set up with Universal before StudioCanal came on board. No release date has been attached to the project, which is currently in the early stages of development.

Right since Tom Hanks starred as the chief editor of The Washington Post alongside Meryl Streep in Steven Spielberg’s ‘The Post’, news is rife that he is likely to star in another movie, which revolves around newspapers. This time with a movie called ‘News Of The World’. Hanks is said to playing the role of a Texan man, Captain Jefferson Kyle Kidd, who goes on a road trip to far-flung places to read daily news to locals, who are otherwise unaware of what’s going on in the world. Based on Paulette Jiles’ novel of the same name, the book was a bestseller, set in the 19th century Texas, which was changing for the better. With Tom Hanks now attached to the film adaptation of the novel, we hope something good really comes out of it!

Tom Hanks is rumored to produce ‘Summer Hours’ along with his partner Gary Goetzman, and might also star in the film, which is a remake of the much-loved 2009 French movie of the same name. It narrates the story of three middle-aged siblings, who reunite after their mother’s death and observe that their childhood memories are soon disappearing as they begin to part with their old belongings.
