14 Most Anticipated World War II Games of 2019

War has been a definitive part of human history and it’s no surprise that the genre exploded ever since the gaming industry gained traction in the late 20th century. We can see the influence of battles and conflict in the modern human history being portrayed in video games even when they used to be simple text adventures. However, the fascination with war has always been a driving point and as soon as we saw the graphics develop, companies began releasing games based on battles and actual historical depiction of games across all genres. It has singlehandedly influenced a variety of genres such as FPS, survival and strategy without which these genres will just be the skeleton without the meat. Without further ado, here is the list of most anticipated new war games coming out in 2019, 2020 — with their release dates — that you can play on PS4, Xbox, PC, Online, iPhone or Andriod. We can only hope that these latest war games are as good as some of the recent ones.

14. Soldier’s Arena (TBA)

Soldier’s Arena is a multiplayer real-time tactics game being developed by ‘Best Way’ and will be published by ‘Best Way Soft’, the publishing front for the same company. The game is set in World War II and players are given the choice of three factions, each having its own identity and perks. Players will have a high control over their units, of which there are over 200, and all decisions taken by the player will adversely affect the gameplay leading to interesting choices and standoffs the players. The game will also provide the players with a dynamic environment where almost everything can be destroyed in the course of war if the players choose to do so, and this introduces variations in gameplay and tactical decisions taken by each faction. The release date is yet to be announced but the fact that the game will be free to play upon release has already generated a lot of hype among war veterans of all ages.

13. Within Whispers: The Fall (2019)

This game is a unique take on the World War genre and hence we wanted to make sure that this indie game comes to your notice. The first thing that will strike you about ‘Within Whispers: The Fall’ is the art style and direction and frankly speaking, you won’t find another game in this genre with the same style. The second thing that will strike you is the intense story and an immersive campaign that revolves around the struggles of Aska, a woman who lost her brother in The Great War. Aska is able to see the ghosts of the soldiers who lost their lives in the war, an ability that is both her only chance of reuniting with her brother and also her waking nightmare. The story-driven action adventure will be available for PC users in March, 2019.

12. Enlisted (2019)

‘Enlisted’ is a MMO co-op shooter based on World War II where the players will be set in specific scenarios handpicked from the events of the war and given objectives which they need to complete by cooperating with their team members. The players will be able to experience the battle on large scales and will also be given control of various AI units during the course of combat. Players will also unlock new characters and weapons through completing objectives that will help them in later co-op missions and grant them with various tactical choices. The battles will also take place in phases- an attempt at recreating the various stages of battle over the course of months; however, the stability of the Dagor engine is yet to be seen when it comes to replicating such environments on a massive scale. The game is presently in alpha-testing phase with a release date for PC set in 2019.

11. Blunt Force (2019)

If there’s one thing that’s missing from games set in World War II, its VR support. However, ‘Monad Rock’ plans to change all of that with their new game ‘Blunt Force’- an action adventure set in World War II that follows two separate storylines and ultimately converges in an exhilarating finale. The player will be able to experience the ravages of war first hand and witness the story of Jean De Meyer, a spy to His Majesty Intelligence service and the protagonist of the story. Not much is known about the development of the game other than the fact that a group of 20 dedicated Polish developers are hard at work to make the game available in 2019.

10. Mordhau (2019)

Mordhau is an upcoming multiplayer only hack and slash video game that primarily focuses on hand-to hand combat. The game is being developed by Triternion Studios and will use the massively popular Unreal 4 engine for gameplay. It is set in the medieval period and the players will have the choice of customizing their character according to their wish and join sprawling battles of up to 64 people. The game relies heavily on player based tactics and the choices made by the player will have an impact on the overall team. You will also need to focus heavily on dodging attacks if you want to stand any chance of winning. A successful kickstarter campaign enabled the developers to completely finish the game and we can expect it to be released sometime later this year.

9. Gates of Hell (TBA)

Gates of Hell is a realistic World War II simulator that will allow you to get right to the middle of all the action. The game is being developed by Barbed Wire Studios and will be published by Best Way Soft but the exact date of release has not yet been announced by the developers. The trailers and developer insights that have been released to the public suggests that the battle will take place on a huge map that has been rendered according to the settings of World War II and will allow for armies to control various points in the map giving them an advantage. The game will contain a single player campaign as well allowing the players to relive epic moments of the war in a very realistic manner. Whether you choose to engage the enemy head on using your superior fire power or you want to apply shady sabotage techniques in order to completely baffle your enemy is completely up to you.

8. Mount and Blade 2: Bannerlord (TBA)

Mount and Blade 2: Bannerlord is the highly anticipated sequel to the popular 2010 action role playing game Mount & Blade: Warband being developed by TaleWorlds Entertainment and will be published by the same company. A proper release date has not yet been confirmed by the company but they have been releasing developer diaries for the game on a weekly basis. The game will take place 210 years before the events of the previous game and will follow the formation of the various kingdoms highlighted in Mount & Blade: Warband and the eventual decline of the Calradian Empire. The game has generated a lot of hype online and we are sure that the title will live up to the legacy of its predecessor.

7. Tom Clancy’s The Division 2 (2019)

Another long-awaited title, Tom Clancy’s The Division 2 is the sequel to the 2016 action role playing game Tom Clancy’s The division. It is being developed by Massive Entertainment and will be published by Ubisoft on the 15th of March, 2019 for Windows PC, PS4 and the Xbox One. The game is set in Washington D.C. about 7 years after the events of the original title and will be mostly centered on civil strifes between the various factions, mainly the survivors and the marauders. The game also relies on co-op combat situations where you can group up with your friends in order to complete quests or participate in raids. If you are a fan of action RPGs , then this title is one you should definitely look out for once it launches.

6. Hell Let Loose (TBA)

This is your opportunity to experience World War II from the safety of your living room. Hell Let Loose is an upcoming World War II simulator that allows you to relive all the major battles of World War II in an extremely realistic setting. The game features a huge sprawling battlefield containing up to 100 players (50 in each team) all fighting to gain control of land and advance forward. You are required to coordinate with your teammates in order to devise strategies that are extremely crucial for the gameplay. The battlefront is constantly shifting and you need to control the supply chain so that resources are able to reach the battle line. This introduces an extra layer of complexity into the game that is rather welcoming. The release date has not yet been confirmed and we shall update you on the same as soon as we receive confirmation.

5. Strategic Mind: The Pacific (2019)

Strategic Mind: The Pacific is a turn based strategy game set in World War II that allows players to witness the battle of the Pacific that was fought between USA and Japan. Currently in development by Starni Games, Strategic Mind: The Pacific will strive to recreate the battles fought on the Pacific with historical accuracy. You will be able to choose both sides and witness the war from each side’s perspective and gain knowledge about the workings of your opposition. You will then be able to deploy your troops according to the scenario. Troops may include a variety of tanks, war machines, fighter aircrafts and submersibles all of which can be individually targeted in order to turn the tide of war. The game is presently in early access and will get a complete release on the 30th of April, 2019.

4. Age of Empires 4 (TBA)

Age of Empires is one of the most popular RTS games of all time having sold more than 20 million copies worldwide. The game has been widely praised for its gameplay mechanics and historical themes that have been critical to the overall success of the game. Having first released in the year 1997, the game has received 3 standalone titles and multiple expansions for each making it widely popular to players of all ages. The game has also played a huge role in redefining the RTS genre and it is all set to do so again as Relic games has teased a new major standalone title in development. Not much is known about the game yet other than the fact that it’s in the development process and will be made available early 2020 or even late 2020 but we are sure that the game would stir up the RTS genre again once it releases.

Escape from Tarkov is an upcoming tactical first person shooter video game being developed by Battlestate Games. The game is set in the fictional city of Tarkov, a city located on the border of Russia and serves as the gateway into Europe. Due to the strategic location of the city, various groups have an avid interest in the area leading to political disorder and communal riots. Escape from Tarkov spent a considerable amount of time in the pre alpha testing stage and now is presently in closed beta. However, pre-ordering the game grants you instant access into the program and allows you to play the game before being released to the public.

2. Uboat (2019)

Uboat is a unique entry in this list and allows you to control and pilot a German Uboat in World War II. There are various missions and your job as the captain of the Uboat is to ensure that the morale of the people stays high and that they return safely after the completion of the mission. The detailing in this game is extremely accurate both physically and historically allowing the fans of the genre to relive the experience of fighting and traversing the ocean on a German Uboat. Being developed by Deep Water Studio, the game is set for a global launch in 2019.

1. Total War: Three Kingdoms (2019)

If there’s one game that is able to recreate large sprawling battles in history, it’s the Total War series. Having first released in the year 2000, the game has become one of the staples of the turn based strategy genre and has managed to sell more than 20 million copies worldwide. Total War: Three Kingdoms will be the 12th installment in the long running video game series and will introduce the player to the conflicts of The Three Kingdoms. Set around the year 190 AD, the player will be able to witness the decline of the Han Dynasty and the subsequent formations of the kingdoms. The game has been widely praised for its battle simulation mechanics where the player is able to engage with enemies on a battlefield in real-time while controlling vast armies. Initially, the game was supposed to be launched on the 7th of March, 2019 but has been delayed to 23rd of May, 2019.
