Nicolas Cage Teams Up with ‘Green Book’ Writer for Cop Thriller

Nick Vallelonga, who won an Oscar for ‘Green Book,’ is teaming with Nicolas Cage for the action-thriller ’10 Double Zero.’ Vallelonga has written the screenplay of the film along with Paul Sloan of ‘I Am Wrath’ fame. The cop thriller is Vallelonga’s first screenplay to get the nod for production since ‘Green Book.’ Christian Sesma, who is known for ‘Vigilante Diaries,’ also joins the project as co-writer and director, reports Deadline.

The upcoming movie is reportedly set in Louisiana and follows two cops who are on a killing spree to hunt down a group of cop killers. But as they approach their target, the cop duo finds themselves in the midst of a top-level conspiracy. The investigation boomerangs straight back at them. Instead of hunting down the targets, the cops become the real targets of some faceless men in higher ranks of the police force who pull the threads.

Nicolas Cage is expected to play one of the lead characters in the movie. No other details of the cast and plot have been revealed yet. Jeff Bowler of Wonderfilm produced the movie along with Bret Saxon. Vallelonga also serves as one of the producers on behalf of his banner Vallelonga Productions. Mike Hatton for Ton of Hats and Josh Mandel for First J Productions are the other producers.

“We are thrilled to introduce ’10 Double Zero’ to audiences around the globe for the first time in Cannes,” Jeff Bowler is quoted as saying by Deadline. “With Nick’s amazing script and his multiple-award-winning track record, combined with the legendary talent of Nicolas Cage in the starring role, this commercially driven thriller is certain to entertain audiences all over the world, and we’ve been gratified to have already enjoyed very strong sales here in Cannes,” explained the founding partner of Wonderfilm Media.

The international sales of the movie is handled by Wonderfilm Global, a recently formed joint platform from 101 Films International and the Wonderfilm Media Corporation. According to Deadline, the company has already roped in former Voltage Vice President Christian De Gallegos as a consultant for the Cannes launch.

Meanwhile, Cage is all set to open up his upcoming movie, the action thriller ‘A Score to Settle.’ The Oscar-winning actor plays an ex-mobster who is released from prison after a sentence of 22 years in the movie. He unleashes his vengeance on the real culprits who set him up in a crime that he didn’t commit. The other cast includes Benjamin Bratt, Noah Le Gros and Mohamed Karim. ‘A Score to Settle’ is directed by Shawn Ku from a screenplay by John Stuart Newman. The movie hits theaters on August 2, 2019. Cage has also lined up the movies ‘Color Out of Space,’ ‘Kill Chain’ and ‘Primal’ in the pipeline.

On the other hand, ‘Green Book,’ which is directed by Peter Farrelly from a screenplay he co-wrote with Nick Vallelonga and Brian Hayes Currie, earned five nominations at the 91st Academy Awards. The movie won three awards for Best Picture, Best Original Screenplay and Best Supporting Actor for ‘Mahershala Ali.
