‘Nimona’: Cast, Plot, Release Date, Trailer, News

‘Nimona’ is an upcoming animated feature film adaptation of a fantasy webcomic by the American comics writer and artist Noelle Stevenson. It is being produced by 20th Century Fox Animation and Blue Sky Studios. Patrick Osborne, who has previously directed Disney’s Oscar-winning short film ‘Feast’, will direct ‘Nimona’ from a script written by Marc Haimes.

‘Nimona’ Cast:

No information is available as to the voice cast of the movie. Christian Kaplan is the Casting director of the movie but there is absolutely no information regarding any progress made in that direction.

‘Nimona’ Release Date:

‘Nimona’ is set for a USA release on 14 February 2020.

‘Nimona’ Plot:

Based on the graphic novel of the same name written and drawn by Noelle Stevenson, ‘Nimona’ follows the titular character, a shapeshifter and sidekick to the villainous Lord Ballister Blackheart. Together, the two fight against Blackheart’s nemesis, Sir Ambrosius Goldenloin. Noelle Stevenson had started ‘Nimona’ as a webcomic initially posted on Tumblr, later published as a graphic novel in 2015 by HarperCollins.

Unlike many other comic book adaptations which are shot as live-action, Fox’s Nimona will be animated, joining the adaptation of ‘Lumberjanes’ in the animation camp. Stevenson also worked on the Lumberjanes comic series, which is published by BOOM! Studios.

It seems both ‘Nimona’ and ‘Lumberjanes’ are a part of Fox’s attempt to adapt all kinds of comic book properties to the big screen. Both the films and their source material are directed at a younger audience, and Fox seems to be keeping the properties true to their roots by adapting them to animation rather than live-action.

Otherwise also, given the kind of webcomics ‘Nimona’ is, it would be quite difficult to adapt it in a live action format. This is the first time that Patrick Osborne is going to direct a full feature animation film. A lot rides on his shoulders given the fact that he has helmed the Oscar winning short film ‘Feast’ for Disney studios. Anyway, it will be a great experience to finally watch the much loved webcomics translate into a animation movie.
