Oscars 2016 Winners Prediction

February 3, 2016
4 min read

Now that we are into February, time has arrived for me take the first stab at predicting who would take the golden statuette come Oscar night. We already have been given some clue by guilds like PGA and SAG on which direction is the current running. And as I have continuously updated you’ll after every guild awards ceremony on what possibilities are we looking at. Just to reiterate, ‘The Big Short’ won the very important PGA while ‘Spotlight’ won SAG, which may not be as indicative as PGA but still counts a lot. This year, I think it will be the first time in last nine years that PGA winner won’t win Best Picture Oscar. Reason is pretty simple. ‘The Big Short’ can’t be the universal choice of the Academy is because of how dense and difficult to understand it is. It is movie that’s soaked in financial jargons — even though Adam McKay, the director, has tried his best to make it simple using funny techniques — and would bounce right off most of the heads. In a group as big as the Academy consisting of more than 6000 people, a film that can be consensus choice usually takes home the Best Picture prize. And ‘The Big Short’ can’t be that choice. On the other hand, a film like ‘Spotlight’ can easily be the consensus choice — liked by everyone, hated by none. Though, neither of them will end the night with most awards. That will be ‘Mad Max: Fury Road’.

My winners prediction are indicated in bold red.
