‘Parasyte -the maxim-‘ is a horror sci-fi anime that is known for being extremely brutal with its portrayal of a war between humans and the extra-terrestrial. Its core ideas may seem a bit familiar, especially to those who have seen Hollywood movies like ‘Venom‘ and ‘The Thing.’ Even so, the anime has a gruesome charm of its own that keeps you captivated throughout its runtime. In case you haven’t watched it yet, you can now check it on Netflix.
Parasyte -the maxim- Season 2 Release Date
‘Parasyte’ season 1 premiered on October 9, 2014, and with a total of 24 episodes, it finished airing on March 29, 2015. All 24 episodes of the anime were then released on Netflix on May 15, 2020. Madhouse Studio (‘Death Note‘, ‘One Punch Man‘), which created the anime, never renewed it for another season. Moreover, even the conclusion of the first season of the anime is very similar to that of its original manga. This makes it pretty obvious that because of a lack of source material, creating a second season may not be possible.
Since it is on Netflix now, if the anime does well commercially on the platform, it is possible that Netflix might renew it for another season. In the unlikely scenario of it being renewed, the second season of the anime will be adopting an original storyline since its manga’s publication ended way back in 1995. That being said, if Netflix renews it, we can expect ‘Parasyte’ Season 2 to release sometime in 2022. Till then you can check out the anime’s two-part movie adaptations.

Parasyte -the maxim- Plot
‘Parasyte -the maxim-‘ centers around a teenage boy named Izumi Shinichi who has a very simple and peaceful life. He lives in a very safe neighborhood and avoids getting into any kind of trouble. But his normal life completely changes one day when parasitic aliens start taking over the world. In their physical state, these parasites are completely harmless and have a tiny worm-like appearance. However, these parasites can be very harmful once they manage to enter one’s brain through the nose or ears. While the rest of the world becomes a victim of these alien species, Izumi is somehow saved from the attack as the parasite that tries to enter his brain, gets buried in his arm, and retains its own physical space in his body.
With its own intellect, the parasite tries to control Izumi but the boy resists. They soon decide to strike a deal where the parasite agrees to help Izumi fight other parasites of the world if he lets him stay in his body as a host. With this, an unlikely alliance ensues between the two, and Izumi becomes mankind’s last hope to win this war against the aliens.
