How much is Phil Mickelson worth? $400 million
How did Phil Mickelson earn his money and wealth?
Phil Mickelson is a professional golfer from the United States. He is also called by his nickname “Lefty”. He was born Philip Alfred Mickelson on June 16, 1970, in San Diego, California to Philip and Mary Mickelson. He was raised in both San Diego and in Scottsdale, Arizona. As a child, he developed his interest to play golf with his father who as a commercial pilot managed to find time to play golf with him several times in a week. He began to play golf even before he started school and in 1988 he graduated from the University of San Diego High School.
Mickelson earned a golf scholarship to study at Arizona State University in Tempe. Such was his golfing prowess that it became the reason why he managed to capture three NCAA individual championships as well as three Haskin Awards (1990, 1991, 1992) as an outstanding collegiate golfer. He subsequently became the face of amateur golf in the United States. He earned first-team All-American honors for all four years and became the second collegiate to earn this distinction. He won his first PGA Tour event as an amateur at the Northern Telecom Open in Tucson in January 1991.
In June 1992, Mickelson turned professional after he graduated from Arizona State University. He hired as his caddy Jim “Bones” Mackay in early 1993. He went on a winning spree such as the World Series of Golf and the Byron Nelson Golf Classic in 1996, in 1998 the At&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am, in 2000 the Colonial National Invitation and in 2001 and 2002 the Greater Hartford Open. In 2004, right before the Ryder Cup in 2004, Mickelson ended up getting dropped by Titleist/Acushnet Golf from the long-standing contract he had signed with them due to an incident where a voicemail had been left to a Callaway executive by Mickelson in praise of his driver and golf ball.
Mickelson’s style of playing has been described to be aggressive and highly social. He is a risk taker when it comes tackling difficult shots such as obstructions or bad lies. Apparently, Mickelson earns more from his endorsement deals than the tournament prize money. Some of the brands which he endorses are ExxonMobil, KPMG, Workday, Rolex, Mizzen+Main and Callaway Golf. He has been previously sponsored by Bearing Point, Titleist, Ford, and Barclays.
Mickelson has ventured into other business avenues. Lately, he has been enlisted to design multiple golf courses across China. He is interested in charity which led to the forming of “Phil and Amy Mickelson Foundation” apart from offering his support to Special Operations Warrior Foundation and Blue for Books. Mickelson has made appearances in films and “Tin Cup” (1996) was his non-speaking role where he appeared as himself along with Kevin Costner. Mickelson is married to Amy Mickelson and they have three children together.
