10 Most Pirated Movies of 2016

5. X-Men: Apocalypse

A pretty templated superhero storyline. An evil force, in this case En Sabah Nur AKA Apocalypse – the world’s first mutant, wants to destroy the earth. And superheroes, in this case X-Men, have to save the earth. And like many other superhero movies, they do. Hurry! I can sleep peacefully tonight. I’m not saying the movie was a disaster, but it neither was fun. It made more than half a billion dollars and was also a hit at the theaters and among the digital pirates.

4. Star Wars: The Force Awakens

A long time ago, in a not-so distant past, George Lucas made a mind-blowing space movie called Star Wars: Episode 7. J. J. Abrams, only remade it. It stands fourth on the most downloaded movies in 2016 list and the third highest grossing movie of all time with over 2.1 billion dollars, internationally. It’s fun, but it doesn’t make the impact the original movie did.

3. Captain America: Civil War

The whole world wanted to see Captain America and Iron Man locking horns. Sadly, the movie was more of a no-brainer. Seriously, if not nobody, I expected Captain America to think sensibly, at least a bit before starting a civil war. An issue that could have been sorted over a cup of coffee ended up into a 2 and half hour movie. It made more than a billion dollars, so who cares about the content, right? Right.

2. Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice

Me while watching this movie:
Superman goes Martha
Batman goes Martha
Some movies are just not worth your money and time and this is one of them. Imagine the number of bytes that have been wasted on such a movie by millions who downloaded it. I felt this movie is not worthy enough even to download, but it’s the runner-up. I assume, people downloaded it just to see how badly they screwed it up.

1. Deadpool

Just when you thought, superhero movies are not working. Even the anti-hero movies are not working. What the world has come down to? Deadpool enters the picture. It had humor. It had blood. It had gory scenes. And…it had more humor. And more blood. Take my money. Deadpool is the most downloaded movie of 2016 and was a surprise hit at the box office.

I don’t have an exact or even an approximate number of downloads, but I can tell you this that every movie was at least downloaded 30 million times, and I’m downplaying it. If you guys have an exact number, please share it with us. Meanwhile the debate if piracy is good or bad is always open. Let us know what you think of piracy. Although piracy affects the industry, some movies on the list did go on to earn plenty. Whether you think piracy is good or bad, it’s here to stay at least for a few more years. As, for me, I think piracy should be stopped. I condemn it strongly.

That’s all folks.

PS: I’m also a hypocrite.
