Queen Latifah, was born as Dana Elaine Owens on 18th March 1970. She is an American songwriter, rapper, actress, singer, and producer.
Queen Latifah got her career break in 1989 when she signed up with Tommy Boy Records. Under this banner, she released her first album, All Hail The Queen. She also doled out the hit single, Ladies First. Her second and final album with the Tommy Boy records was Nature of a Siesta, in 1991.
From 1993 to 1998, Queen Latifah played the role of Khadijah James in the situational comedy, Living Single, which was aired on FOX. Queen Latifah’s next album, the third, comprised of a single which was U.N.I.T.Y. which not only won her a Grammy Award but also a hit on the Billboard Hot 100. In 1996, she essayed the lead role in Set It Off. Meanwhile, she also had her fourth album, Order In The Court in 1998. She had signed up with the Motown Records for this album.
She won a prestigious Academy Award in the Best Supporting Actress category for her performance in the 2002 film, Chicago. She simultaneously took up acting and music. While she was not filming, she would work on her next album. She was equally successful in acting and music.
In 2004, she was successful with her fifth album, The Dana Owens Album. 2007 saw the release of Trav’lin’ Light and 2009 saw the release of Persona. Changing streams, she began her own talk show titled, The Queen Latifah Talk Show which was aired on CBS for two years, beginning in 2013.
