Ray Romano is an actor, stand-up comedian, and screenwriter who was born Raymond Albert Romano. He was born on December 21, 1957, in Queens, New York. He has an older brother and a younger brother. They grew up in the Forest Hills neighborhood of Queen. He studied at Our Lady Queen of Martyrs and graduated in 1975 from Hillcrest High School. He studied accounting at Queens College before he quit his studies to get into show business.

Romano’s earliest appearance as a comedian was in the Johnnie Walker Comedy Search in 1998 on The Comedy Channel. Following which he became a recurring guest voice on The Comedy Channel’s shows like “Professional Therapist” and “Dr. Katz”. He was selected to play the role of Joe in the sitcom “NewsRadio” but he was fired from the show. He appeared on “Late Show with David Letterman” where he performed stand-up comedy. Later he starred on his own show “Everybody Loves Raymond” which was first aired in September 1996. The show was a hit and it earned Romano six Emmy nominations, five Screen Actors Guild Award nominations, and two Golden Globe nominations. He won an Emmy in 2002. He was one of the highest paid television actors in 2004. He was also named one of E’s top twenty entertainers of the year in 2001.

Romano has also starred in “Grilled” along with his best friend and actor Kevin James. He has made several TV appearances. He was a part of “Who Wants to be a Millionaire” where he won $125,000 for the NYPD’s D.A.R.E. unit. He has appeared in “The Price is Right” as a special guest star in 2003. In 2004, he was part of “95 Miles to Go” which documented Romano’s road trip across the south of the United States and was released in April 2007 across theatres by ThinkFilm. He was also a part of “Sit Down with David Steinberg” in March 2007 where he was interviewed live by David Steinberg in front of a live audience in UCLA. In 2008 he co-created “Men of a Certain Age” which was a dramedy for TNT Channel. The has also appeared in “The Office”, “The Middle” where he was reunited with his “Everybody Loves Raymond” co-star, Patricia Heaton and “Parenthood”. He has been a part of the ‘Ice Age” film franchise where he has voiced Manny, the wooly mammoth Manfred. At present, he is a part of “Get Shorty”.

Apart from acting, Romano has competed in the World Series of Poker from 2007 to 2011, 2013 and 2015.

Romano is married to Anna Scarpulla and they have four children. They met when they worked together in a bank.
