Robert De Niro, Shia LaBeouf to Star in Crime Drama ‘After Exile’

Robert De Niro and Shia LaBeouf are starring together in ‘After Exile’, an upcoming crime drama based on true events. Anthony Thorne and Michael Tovo have written the script of the film, while Joshua Michael Stern is taking over the directing duties. Pacific Shore Films and Thorne are producing the movie along with Steve Snyder. Les Cohen is on board as the executive producer, and filming is supposed to start in October in Philadelphia. The news was first reported by Deadline

The story of ‘After Exile’ revolves around Mike Delaney, played by LaBeouf, who is in prison for having killed an innocent man after a violent robbery. Upon being released, Delaney must make his way back to society and re-enter the life he left behind. His ex-criminal father, Ted Delaney, played by De Niro, lost his wife many years ago and as a result, suffers from guilt and alcoholism. Mike’s younger brother is also leading a life of drugs and crime. With not much left, the only thing Ted holds on to is the instinct that he must save both his sons from the dark and dangerous path that they are on. Basically, ‘After Exile’ is all about the difficult path that leads to forgiveness and redemption.

Stern is a capable director who has helmed projects like ‘Jobs’ starring Ashton Kutcher, and has also made ‘Graves’, the tv series. It will be interesting to see how he tackles ‘After Exile’. As for the actors, both LaBeouf and De Niro have very busy schedules ahead of them this year, with big films scheduled to come out in the fall. LaBeouf can presently be seen in ‘Peanut Butter Falcon‘. Later this year, he will be seen starring in ‘Honey Boy’. The film, which received a lot acclaim at Sundance Film Festival earlier this year, is based on a script written by actor himself and talks about the challenges and rough road that he faced as a child star.

Robert De Niro, on the other hand, is reuniting with Martin Scorsese, Harvey Keitel, Joe Pesci, and Al Pacino for the upcoming crime film ‘The Irishman’. Notably, this is the first Scorsese movie where De Niro and Al Pacino can be seen together. De Niro is also on board as the co-producer of the movie which is going to make its world premiere at the New York Film Festival. Apart from that, De Niro is also part of the cast in the upcoming ‘Joker‘ movie, which stars Joaquin Phoenix. The movie, which has directed by Todd Phillips, releases in the US on October 4, 2019.
