How did Russell Westbrook earn his money and wealth?

Russell Westbrook is most popularly knowns as the professional basketball player under the National Basketball Association (NBA). He plays for the Oklahoma City Thunder at present. Westbrook was born Russell Westbrook III on November 12, 1988, in Long Beach, California. He has a younger brother called Raynard Westbrook. Westbrook grew up in Hawthorne and had hopes that he would study at UCLA and play basketball together with his best friend, Khelcey Barrs III. Sadly, Barrs died from an enlarged heart in May 2004 during a pickup game. He studied in Leuzinger High School and played basketball as a point guard. He joined his school’s varsity team in his junior year and received his first college recruiting letter in his senior year during the summer. His height is 6 ft 3 in. Although he did not attract many college offers for basketball programs, he was offered a scholarship by Ben Howland to play for the UCLA Bruins after the NBA draft.

Westbrook joined UCLA in 2006 and played for the Bruins wearing number 0. Initially, he was used as a defender and an energy player off the bench along with being a back up to Darren Collison. In the next season, he was named the starter after Collison was injured. That year he won the Pac-10 Defensive Player of the Year and was named All-Pac-10Third Team. During each of Westbrook’s seasons with UCLA Bruins, UCLA was able to advance to the Final Four. After studying in UCLA for two years, he decided to forgo his final two years and wished to enter the NBA draft in 2008.

In the 2008 NBA draft, Westbrook was selected 4th overall and was signed by the Seattle SuperSonics who later changed their name to Oklahoma City Thunder after they shifted to Oklahoma City. He recorded a first career triple-double in March 2009 with 17 points, 10 assists, and 10 rebounds. In the 2008-09 NBA Rookie of the Year, he finished fourth and was included in the NBA’s NBA All-Rookie First Team. In 2010 he was named for the first time to the All NBA Second Team and was selected in the NBA All-Stars Game in 2012.  For the third consecutive time, he was selected to the All-NBA Second Team. Westbrook had to undergo two surgeries on his right knee in 2013. During that season he played on limited minutes and sat out in a few matches. In 2015 he was named the All-Star MVP. At the first ever NBA Awards Show in 2017, he was named the recipient of the NBA Most Valuable Player Award.

Westbrook has been a part of the national team as well and was selected to the FIBA World Championship team in 2010 which was held in Istanbul, Turkey. He and his team won a gold in the 2012 Summer Olympic Games in London.
