The man from Avatar. No matter how many awards he gets, no matter how many critically acclaimed performances he gives, when we talk about Sam Worthington, the first thing that comes to our mind is ‘Jake Sully’. Just like ‘Jake Sully’, nothing was served on a platter for Sam Worthington.
There’s scope for a rag to riches movie in Sam Worthington’s real life. Even though he was born in England, his family moved to Perth when he was only 6 years old. His father was a power plant employee. After School, Sam went to the John Curtin College of arts, which focuses on dramatic arts. But unfortunately, he couldn’t finish the course. After he left the college, his father gave him just 400 dollars for a one way trip to Queensland and from there, asked him to ‘work his way home’. There, Sam worked on several small-time jobs, including bricklaying and started supporting himself when he was only 19 years of age. While on that Job, he auditioned for National Institute for dramatic art and got in, with a scholarship.
Sam got several opportunities in Australian movies. His big break was the role of Joe in ‘Somersault’, an independent romantic drama film written and directed by Cate Shortland. He won the AFI award for the Best Lead Actor in that movie. Later on, he played ‘Macbeth’ in Geoffrey Wrights film with the same title. The film was an adaption of ‘Macbeth’ into a modern-day gangster setting in Melbourne and was selected for screening at the Toronto Film Festival. Sam also tried his hand successfully on the small screen. He played a major role in an Australian TV series called ‘Love My Way’. It was during this time, he auditioned for ‘James Bond’ in Casino Royale, which as we know, Daniel Craig came out victorious.
Sam Worthington’s international career started with a role in ‘The Great Raid’ which was a Hollywood movie filmed in Australia. Later on, he had a role in an Australian horror movie ‘Rouge’, which surprisingly got a 100% rating on Rotten Tomato. His International career got a big break with ‘Terminator Salvation’. In that movie, he played along with Christian Bale. Then came ‘Jake Sully’ in Avatar. It grossed a record-breaking 2.3 billion at the box office, which was the highest ever until ‘Avengers: Endgame’ happened.
After Avatar, Sam went on to do several movies. He performed well in some remarkable films like the ‘Clash of the Titans’ and its sequel, ‘Man on the ledge’, critically acclaimed TV series ‘Manhunt: Unabomber’ produced by Discovery, and the Academy Award-nominated movie ‘Hacksaw Ridge’.
Even though he is a good actor who has all some amazing films in his resume, Worthington is in desperate need of another huge hit to secure his position as an ‘A list’ actor in Hollywood. So, here’s the list of all upcoming and latest Sam Worthington movies scheduled to release in near future.
