Sean Penn was born on August 17 in 1960. He is an American actor, filmmaker, and political activist. Penn won many awards for his movies and contributed a lot in politics. His unique style of acting is popular among his fans. Penn began his career in acting in a television with a guest appearance in episode 112 of Little House on the Prairie in 1974, directed by his father Leo Penn. He made his film debut in the drama Taps released in 1981 and did different types of roles in the 1980s, including Fast Times at Ridgemont High in 1982.

Penn made his debut in the field of direction with The Indian Runner released in 1991, mystery film The Pledge (2001) and The Crossing Guard (1995). Penn received critical attention for his roles in the crime movies including At Close Range (1986), State of Grace (1990), and Carlito’s Way (1993). He became known as a noticeable leading actor with the horror drama Dead Man Walking released in 1995, for which he grabbed his first Academy Award nomination and won the Best Actor Award at the Berlin Film Festival. He won the Academy Award for his movie She’s So Lovely, released in 1997.

Penn was also nominated for two Oscar awards for Woody Allen’s comedy-drama Sweet and Lowdown released in 1999 and the drama I Am Sam released in 2001. Penn’s role in a movie Mystic River (2003) was one of his memorable roles and he won his first Academy Award for best actor for this movie. He also won his second Academy Award for the movie Milk in 2008.  Other successful movies for which he won awards include Hurlyburly (1998) and the drama 21 Grams (2003). During this decade, he also made an appearance on the TV sitcom, Friends (1994-2004).

His movie Into the Wild, released in 2007, received appreciation and he won two Academy Award nominations for this movie. In addition to his film work, Penn is known for his political and social activism, including his disapproval of the George W. Bush administration, his contact with the Presidents of Cuba and Venezuela, and his social work for the Hurricane Katrina (2005) and the 2010 Haiti earthquake.

Penn was engaged to actress Elizabeth McGovern, in 1984. Both were the costars in a movie, Racing with the Moon. In 1985, he met the Pop singer, Madonna, and both got married in the same year in August. However, both ended their relationship in 1989 and Penn was again in the news with his relationship with actress Robin Wright. The couple divorced in 2010.
