Sean Penn to Direct, Star in ‘Flag Day’ Opposite Josh Brolin and Miles Teller

Sean Penn is set to direct and star in the upcoming conman flick ‘Flag Day’ opposite Josh Brolin and Miles Teller, reports The Wrap. The movie will also feature Penn’s daughter Dylan Penn and son Hopper Penn. Norbert Leo Butz, Dale Dickey, Eddie Marsan, Bailey Noble, Hopper Penn and Katheryn Winnick round out the cast. The movie is expected to start principal photography in this month.

Based on the 2005 memoir titled ‘Film-Flam Man: The True Story of My Father’s Counterfeit Life,’ ‘Flag Day’ is written by Tony Award winner Jez Butterworth. The movie tells the story of a daughter’s struggles to get rid of her con-man father’s dark legacy from her life forever. William Horberg, Jon Kilik and Fernando Sulichin will produce the film. Christelle Conan, Anders Erdén, Peter Touche, Phyllis Laing, Devan Towers, Thorsten Schumacher, Vincent Maraval, John Wildermuth, Sidney Kimmel, and Allen Liu will serve as executive producers. Wonderful Films, Rahway Road, New Element Films and Clyde is Hungry Films join hands for producing the movie.

Apart from handling international sales, Rocket Science and Wild Bunch will executive produce the project while CAA Media Finance will arrange finance. Ingenious Media, New Element Media and Manitoba Film and Music will provide additional funding.

Academy Award winner Penn directed critically acclaimed movies like ‘Into the Wild,’ ‘The Pledge,’ ‘The Crossing Guard,’ and ‘The Indian Runner.’ Dylan Penn’s, who is a model, credits include ‘Elvis & Nixon’ and ‘Condemned.’

Brolin was last seen in Marvel’s all-time blockbuster ‘Avengers: Endgame’ as the iconic supervillain Thanos. The Mad Titan has recently won top honors at this year’s MTV Awards show including ‘Best Villain of the Year‘ award. He pinned down other contestants like Jodie Comer (‘Killing Eve’) and Lupita Nyong’o (‘Us’), Joseph Fiennes (‘The Handmaid’s Tale’). and Penn Badgley (‘You’). Brolin’s upcoming movies include the much-anticipated movie adaptation ‘Dune’ directed by Denis Villeneuve. Eric Roth, Jon Spaihts and Villeneuve wrote the script based on the 1965 novel of the same name by Frank Herbert. Brolin will be seen alongside an ensemble cast that includes Timothée Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson, Oscar Isaac, Stellan Skarsgård, Dave Bautista, Zendaya, David Dastmalchian, Stephen Henderson, Charlotte Rampling, Jason Momoa, and Javier Bardem.

Miles Teller’s upcoming movie is the action thriller ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ starring Tom Cruise and Val Kilmer. The film is a sequel to the 1986 flick ‘Top Gun.’ Teller also lends his voice to the character Gilbert, an aardvark, in the animated comedy ‘The Ark and the Aardvark’ from Unified Pictures.
