Sergio García Fernández is the full name of Sergio García. He is a renowned professional golfer, who plays on both the European Tour as well as the United States Tour. The golfer was born on 9th, January 1980 in Castellon, Spain. He has spent much of his career in the top 10 of the Official World Golf Ranking, which includes 300 weeks in the top 10 between 2000 and 2009, and over 400 weeks in the top 10 in total.

Sergio started playing golf at the mere age of three. At the age of 12, he was a star player as a junior and won his club championship. After four years, he set a record being the youngest player to win the 1995 Turespaña Open Mediterranea, the European Tour event. In 1997, he again made a cut by winning the Boys Amateur Championship. As an amateur, he also won a professional tournament, the 1997 Catalan Open. In 1998, he won The Amateur Championship and made to the semi-finals of the U.S. Amateur, finishing second in the 1998 Argentine Open, being the low amateur meanwhile winning the Pereyra Iraola Cup.

In 1999, he turned professional after shooting the lowest amateur score in the 1999 Masters Tournament.  In July 1999, his first title on the European Tour came in his sixth start as a professional at the Irish Open. At the age of 21, he won his first PGA Tour tournament at the 2001 MasterCard Colonial in Fort Worth, Texas. Again, in the same year, he won at the Buick Classic. In the 2006 Ryder Cup, he won both his fourball and foursome matches at the K Club in Ireland. He won The Players Championship on the PGA Tour in a playoff against Paul Goydos in 2008. Next year, in 2009 he had to go through a very disappointing season. But, he continued the run and at the 2011 PGA Championship, he finished in a tie for 12th place. He won the Commercial Bank Qatar Masters after defeating Mikko Ilonen in a playoff in January 2014, which brought him back in the world top 10. On 9th April 2017, he won The Masters with an exciting finish. After 19 years on the PGA tour, it was his first master’s and his first major championship.

García has to his credit 31 international tournaments as a professional, the most popular being the 2008 Players Championship and the 2017 Masters. Since 1999, he has been a member of every European Ryder Cup team, except in 2010. He holds a career record at the Ryder Cup of 19–11–7 (.608). He is also the president and chairman of his hometown football club CF Borriol.
