When he goes to the town, he finds out that the sheriff of Wayward Pines Arnold Pope has placed an electrified fence all around the town and does not let anybody escape. Anyone who does attempt to escape is publicly executed. The series received widespread critical acclaim, thanks to its unique storyline and the performances by the actors.

8. The OA (2016-)

‘The OA’ is a supernatural mystery drama television series. The story revolves around a character called Prairie Johnson. When the show begins, we see that she has come back to her adoptive parents after going missing for seven years. When she finally returns, Johnson claims to be something called the Original Angel. She displays mysterious scars on her back, and the most shocking of all is that she was blind when she had gone missing, but now she can easily see. Johnson gathers five young students from her locality and begins a quest to free missing children from another dimension. The series received positive reviews from critics.

7. Legacies (2018-)

‘Legacies’ is a spin-off of the series ‘The Originals’. Hope Mikaelson, the leading character of the series, was first seen in the final season of the preceding show. The events of this series kick off two years after those of ‘The Originals’ ended. There is a school called Salvatore School for the Young and Gifted which Hope attends and this is where she gets to know the various methods of controlling the supernatural powers that she possesses. The series received critical appreciation for its unique plot and presentation.

6. The Originals (2013-2018)

‘The Originals’ is a spin-off of the series ‘The Vampire Diaries’. The story of the show centers around the characters Klaus, Elijah, and Rebeka. They are siblings, and their family, the Mikaelsons, are called ‘The Originals’. This name is given to their family because the Mikaelsons were the first ever vampires to exist. The family was initially based out of New Orleans, and when this series begins, we see the three siblings going back to their original hometown. One of their family members, Niklaus “Klaus” Mikaelson, is considered the black sheep of the family because unlike the rest of them, he is a descendant of a witch and a werewolf. It is now Klaus who controls New Orleans and the siblings reach the city to see that it is a hotbed of agitation between werewolves, vampires, and witches.

5. The Secret Circle (2011-2012)

The leading character of ‘The Secret Circle’ is a young girl known as Cassie Blake. She lives with her grandmother after her mother dies and also joins a new school. Here, she finds out from five of her classmates that she is actually a witch. Naturally, Cassie refuses to believe them at first, but a book left at her home by her mother tells her that these friends are right and she indeed is a witch. Cassie also comes to know that she is the sixth and final member of their coven and it is with her addition to the group that the six of them will be able to meet the fullest potential of their powers. The series received mixed reviews from critics and was canceled after its first season. Some fans petitioned against the cancellation, but to no avail.

4. Charmed (2018-)

A reboot of the show of the same name, which was broadcast on the Warner Brothers Network from 1998 to 2006, ‘Charmed’ revolves around three sisters — Mel, Maggie, and Macy Vaughn. The identity of Macy Vaughn is only discovered after their mother’s death occurs at the hands of an evil spirit. When the three sisters finally meet, they are able to feel their magical powers and potentials for the first time. Macy gets the power of telekinesis, Mel can freeze time, and Maggie can listen to the thoughts of people. The three sisters are visited by an entity called the whitelighter, who is their adviser and protector. This whitelighter’s name is Harry Greenwood. He explains to them their duty on the earth, and this is where the three sisters take on the identity of ‘The Charmed Ones’ and take up their job of protecting the innocent.

3. Witches Of East End (2013-2014)

Based on the book ‘Witches of East End’ by Melissa de la Cruz, this series deals with a family of witches and their lives. The central character of the story is Joanna Beauchamp. She has two daughters Freya and Ingrid, and a sister called Wendy Beauchamp. All of these four individuals are witches, but none of them can harness their powers any longer after being cursed due to their involvement in the Salem Witch Trials. However, things change for the family when one of them, Freya, comes in contact with Dash Gardiner and his brother Killian. The family soon gain all their magical powers in mysterious ways. But as they keep using their magical powers more and more, a mysterious force begins to haunt the town that they live in. The series received poor reviews from critics because of its soap-opera-like qualities.

2. Riverdale (2017-)

This series is based on the characters from the famous comic book series known as Archie Comics. The protagonist of the story is a young boy called Archie Andrews who lives in a town called Riverdale. We see Archie and his friends grow up in the beautiful town where they face the several challenges of life that are common to young adults. However, things suddenly take a pretty serious turn when one of the students from Archie’s school, Jason Blossom, is found murdered. Archie and his group of friends realize that Riverdale might be a beautiful town, but it has more secrets than what they are aware of.

1. Sabrina: The Teenage Witch (1996-2003)

‘Sabrina the Teenage Witch’ is based on the Archie comics character, Sabrina Spellman. It is a sitcom which chronicles Sabrina’s life as a witch. She lives in a strange family with two aunts who are 500 years old. She has an anthropomorphic cat called Salem. On her 16th birthday, she first comes to know that she is a witch. However, this is a deviation from what we find in the book where Sabrina always knows that she is a witch with magical powers. The series became popular and was syndicated in many countries after its initial run. However, the show has not been free from criticism. Some have pointed out the fact that the makers of ‘Sabrina The Teenage Witch’ have made the character problematic by showing that beauty is directly related to how much control a witch has over her powers or whether she is feminine enough.
