Snoopy in Space Season 1: Premiere Date, Cast, Recap, Update

Sometime ago, Peanuts Worldwide and NASA had signed the Space Act Agreement wherein the former would produce new material to engage young audience in space exploration. In honour of the Apollo 11 anniversary, a short documentary feature, called ‘Peanuts in Space: Secrets of Apollo 11’ was released, which questioned the nature of Snoopy’s contribution in space exploration. The mystery it addresses is: was Snoopy a top-secret astronaut? This documentary is narrated by Jeff Goldblum (because who else!) and Ron Howard.

‘Snoopy in Space’, the new Apple TV+ series, follows the beagle’s adventures as an astronaut, while Charlie Brown and his friends help him out. The series is produced by DHX Media, the original owner of the Peanuts content, that previously signed a deal with Apple, bestowing on it all the rights of the content. This means that not only can Apple produce new series and other stuff, it also has the rights to everything related to the Peanuts universe, and all of it will be made available to watch on the Apple TV+ streaming service.

Snoopy in Space Cast: Who’s in it?

Snoopy is voiced by Terry McGurrin. He is Charlie Brown’s dog, and is much more confident than him. He is also very intelligent and lives in the world of fantasies. Ethan Pugiotto voices Charlie Brown, Snoopy’s human, who is a shy boy, unable to form an impression on others because of not being able to do simple tasks like flying a kite or playing football. Still, time and again, Charlie Brown rises to the occasion and acts as a much-needed leader.

The series also brings back all of the main characters of the Peanuts world. Rob Tinkler voices Woodstock, a small yellow bird who is Snoopy’s best friend. Christian Dal Dosso plays Franklin, a young African-American boy who is very smart and also plays baseball.

Isabella Leo voices Lucy, an authoritarian who sometimes teases Charlie Brown. Holly Gorski lends her voice to Marcie, a book nerd who secretly likes Charlie. Hattie Kragten voices the character of Sally, Charlie’s younger sister. Isis Moore serves as the voice of Peppermint Patty, Marcie’s best friend. Wyatt White is the voice of Linus, Lucy’s brother and Charlie’s best friend who has a special connection with Sally; and Nicole Byer voices C.A.R.A, a new addition to the team.

Snoopy in Space Plot: What’s it about?

Snoopy has always been a dog who surpassed the intelligence of his species. As exceptional as he is, his dreams go even further. While he finds one thing or another to make his other fantasies come true, which leads him and Charlie Brown on exciting misadventures, there is one wish that hasn’t been fulfilled yet.

Snoopy wants to be an astronaut. He dreams about floating into space and creating history, perhaps somewhat inspired by Laika, the first dog in space. After trying to get Woodstock and his flock of little yellow birds to launch him into space and failing at it, he finally sends an application to NASA. But the response of the space agency isn’t so encouraging. His application is rejected because he doesn’t fit the criteria, which breaks his heart. Seeing him all sad and broken about the dream of his life, Charlie Brown decides to take the charge of getting his dog into space.

Along with his friends, he finds a way to accomplish this mission. Woodstock, too, helps in every way possible. As Snoopy trains hard, he can feel his dream materialising. But will it turn into a reality? Can Snoopy really become an astronaut? Also, will NASA recognise his determination and offer their help, or will Charlie Brown and Co have to do it all by themselves?

Snoopy in Space Release Date: When Will It Premiere?

‘Snoopy in Space’ Season 1 is set to release on Apple TV+ on November 1, 2019.

The streaming service promises a wide slate of content to its audience and ‘Snoopy in Space’ isn’t even the only space series. There is also the alternate reality sci-fi series, ‘For All Mankind’, which also deals with the race for landing on the Moon and beyond. However, it is on a completely different note to the Peanut world, which tends to focus more on the philosophical reasoning, as has been done with the comic strip in the past.

Charles Schulz’s characters have been around for a very long time and indulged in all sorts of situations to address the social and cultural issues and exploring intellectual and philosophical grounds. It has previously won several Emmys, and if ‘Snoopy in Space’ continues to tread such grounds, it could mean Awards nod for it, further legitimising the growing influence of Apple TV+.

Addressing the question of the continuation of series, we fully expect ‘Snoopy in Space’ to return for the second season. Once Snoopy gets himself there, there is no doubt that he wouldn’t want to explore its frontiers, to go where no dog has been before. Moon, Mars, Jupiter, there is no end to the places where his curiosity and fantasies will take him, which means that the series has no shortage of content. As of now, no official announcement has been made for the renewal of the series. Still, we can expect the second season to drop sometime in November 2020. As we receive more information on the matter, we will update this section.
