It is almost a very bold move: putting on a new show with relatively unknown actors at the same time when big shows are coming back on the air — Game of Thrones, Ray Donovan, Ballers, etc.! But Snowfall stands out. Not because it’s better — those shows are great, and this is just starting out — but because it has a degree of originality to it; in fact, you can almost smell the authenticity from the outset.
The show was co-created by Oscar and Emmy-nominated writer and director John Singleton. The series premiered on July 5, 2017, by the FX network. It’s one of those that keep you excited to see the next episode. This show is excellent for those who understand the complexities and disparities of the drug trade. Snowfall is violent and honest. It gives off the same feel as the original Miami Vice when Crocket and Tubbs walked a fine line between the law and the dark side of the drug world. And while nothing is as good as Breaking Bad, Snowfall certainly gives Southland a run for its money.

Snowfall also follows Gustavo “El Oso” Zapata (Sergio Peris-Mencheta), a wrestler who gets involved with a power struggle within a crime family; Lucia Villanueva (Emily Rios), the daughter of a Mexican crime lord, who hopes to make a name for herself and get out from under her father’s thumb; and Teddy McDonald (Carter Hudson), a sketchy CIA operative who begins an off-book operation to fund the Nicaraguan Contras and has a dark past.
