Shinichiro Watanabe has helmed several successful anime shows in the past with ‘Cowboy Bebop‘ being his most acclaimed work. While most of his other anime shows like ‘Samurai Champloo‘ and ‘Carole & Tuesday‘ seem to have deeper themes, ‘Space Dandy’ lacks any kind of seriousness to it. Coming off more as an antithesis of ‘Cowboy Bebop’, the anime is full of all kinds of ridiculous and zany comical moments that’ll make you stay for more.
Pretty much like most other Watanabe’s works, ‘Space Dandy’ follows an episodic format and does not really have an overarching plot. But even after having no continuity in its storyline or depth in context with its characters, it is by far one of the most entertaining anime shows out there. If you’re tired of watching the same old anime shows that offer nothing new, ‘Space Dandy’ is your escape into a futuristic comedy that is silly yet extremely funny. With that said, to know more about the prospects of its third season, read on further.
Space Dandy Season 3 Release Date: When will it premiere?
‘Space Dandy’ season 1 premiered on January 5, 2014 and with a total of 13 episodes, it ended on March 27, 2014. This was then followed by season 2 which again had 13 episodes and aired from Jul 6, 2014 to Sep 25, 2014. Its second season has a pretty satisfying ending but at the same time, it also ends with a minor cliffhanger that suggests that the anime will possibly be renewed in the future. However, despite this, there isn’t much we’ve heard about it since then. So as of now, the future of ‘Space Dandy’ remains uncertain.
If by any chance, the creators of the series are still considering its renewal, we can expect ‘Space Dandy’ season 3 to release sometime in 2021.

Space Dandy Plot
In a universe where all sorts of strange creatures co-exist, it is Dandy’s job to hunt down all the aliens who are unclassified and then register them for a reward. For an outsider, his job might seem a bit too easy but along the way, he tends to come across the weirdest creatures who are not always as welcoming as he would want them to be. With a crew that involves sidekicks, the adorable robot vacuum QT, and a cat-like alien named Meow, he travels through the depths of space in his slightly-used ship the Aloha Oe and searches for undiscovered species of aliens. And while he’s at it, he crosses paths with new friends, potential enemies and gets to experience some of the most memorable unexpected adventures.
Space Dandy Characters
Dandy
Dandy is the main titular character of the series who is laid-back space hunter and is also the captain of Aloha Oe. He travels through space with his tiny crew and looks for new species of aliens. This allows him to have some great adventures and every time he registers a new alien species, he also gets a reward in return. He has an athletic lanky build and is pretty tall. He sports a hairstyle which is similar to that of Elvis Presley and usually wears baggy clothes. He looks like a delinquent and his personality will remind you of Spike from ‘Cowboy Bebop‘ or even Mugen from ‘Samurai Champloo‘.
He’s too lazy and keeps procrastinating the most menial tasks such as cleaning up his ship or cooking food for himself. He is dimwitted and tends to contradict himself almost all the time. Dandy even tries to ignore the comments of his crew members and only does what he wishes to do.
Meow
Meow is Dandy’s friend and one of the crew members of his ship. In appearance, Meow looks like a genetically advanced cat but it is actually an alien from Planet Betelgeuse. Pretty much like Dandy, Meow does absolutely nothing all day. The cat spends all its time on video games and manga. However, when they go out alien hunting, it proves to be an asset as it tracks down alien species by looking them up on social media.
Meow just loves food and will do anything to get some seafood in its stomach. The cat apparently sprinkles fish flakes in almost everything that it eats. It also snacks on bags of potato chips all the time and then leaves them lying around all over the ship. To Dandy’s disgust, the cat has an extremely poor sense of hygiene and never really takes a bath. Instead, it just licks itself clean which makes it smell like fish. Meow is also a bit of a pervert but never openly claims to be one. Like Dandy, the cat is also not too smart and that’s probably the reason why the two of them get along so well.
