‘SpongeBob SquarePants’, the extremely popular Nickelodeon show, is a kids’ animated series created by Stephen Hillenburg. The story primarily revolves around the titular character and chronicles his various adventures in the fictional underwater city of Bikini Bottom. Branded as the fifth, longest-running animated series from the US, it has not only progressed to become a media franchise but is also the channel’s highest-rated title.
Most of the ideas in the show are inspired by the unpublished educational comic book, named ‘The Intertidal Zone’, created by Hillenburg in the late 1980s. The process for developing SpongeBob SquarePants into a full-fledged series actually began in the 1990s. The first season debuted on Nickelodeon on July 17, 1999. Since its premiere, it has been appreciated on a global platform, making it one of the most popular cartoons of all time. No doubt, it has spanned 12 seasons to date. Here’s all you need to know about its 13th edition.
SpongeBob SquarePants Season 13 Release Date:
‘SpongeBob SquarePants’ Season 12 premiered on November 11, 2018, on Nickelodeon. This is the last season that features the involvement of Hillenburg before his death on November 26, 2018. Now, as far as a 13th season is concerned, we have good news for the fans. On July 17, 2019, Nickelodeon renewed the show and ordered a 13-episode 13th season. Even though the release date for the next season wasn’t announced, we expect ‘SpongeBob SquarePants’ season 13 to premiere sometime in 2021. We shall update this section with a more concrete timeline as and when we learn more.
SpongeBob Squarepants Season 13 Cast: Who Can be in it?
Apart from SpongeBob, who is the titular character, the series features an ensemble cast of multiple aquatic entities. Our protagonist is an enthusiastic, positive, and active sea sponge who looks like a rectangular sponge we usually see in kitchens. He resides in an underwater pineapple, in the company of his pet snail Gary, whose voice resembles a cat’s meow. SpongeBob is employed as a fry cook at a fast-food restaurant, named Krusty Krab. His only ambition is to obtain a license so that he can drive a boatmobile and his all-time hobby is ‘jelly-fishing’.
SpongeBob’s neighbor and buddy is the dim-witted Patrick Star, a pink starfish who has his home beneath a rock. Yet another neighbor is Squidward Tentacles, his colleague at Krusty Krab and a proud, bad-tempered octopus. His home in an Easter Island moai. Krusty Krab is owned by a red crab named Mr. Krabs who runs his restaurant like it is a pirate ship. He has a teenage daughter Pearl, who is actually a sperm whale. Sandy Cheeks, the muscled and thrill-loving squirrel from Texas, is yet another of SpongeBob’s friends.
The aforementioned characters are voiced by a mix of stars, Tom Kenny, Bill Fagerbakke, Rodger Bumpass, Clancy Brown, Mr. Lawrence, Jill Talley, Carolyn Lawrence, Mary Jo Catlett, Lori Alan, who are all expected to return for season 13.
SpongeBob SquarePants Season 13 Plot: What Can it be About?
Almost all of the events of ‘SpongeBob SquarePants‘ are set in the imaginary benthic underwater city of Bikini Bottom. The fictional town is located in the Pacific Ocean, below the real coral reef, called Bikini Atoll. The residents here comprise different types of bright, colorful fishes who reside in shelters crafted from ship funnels. Their major mode of transportation is “boatmobiles,” a combo of cars and boats. The story arcs mainly take place in the locales of Bikini Bottom, which comprise the houses of SpongeBob, Patrick, and Squidward, the two rival restaurants — Krusty Krab and Chum Bucket, Mrs. Puff’s Boating School, Treedome (Sandy’s enclosed glass home with continuous oxygen supply), Shady Shoals Rest Home, Jellyfish Fields, and Goo Lagoon.
In this character-driven cartoon, we mainly get to enjoy the numerous aquatic and often, nonsensical quests of SpongeBob, along with his group of underwater friends. SpongeBob’s only problem is that he cannot follow the logical approach to daily issues. Instead, he uses some non-traditional, peculiar solutions, which often land him in trouble. Although his intentions are good, his knack for attracting problems often causes chaos in the underwater kingdom. Season 13 will follow the same premise and bring forth several new adventures of SpongeBob and his weird bunch of friends.
