Star Trek: Lower Decks Season 2: Everything We Know

‘Star Trek: Lower Decks’, created by Mike McMahan, is an adult animated comedy series that airs on CBS All Access. It forms a part of the extensive ‘Star Trek’ franchise and revolves around the Lower Deck crew, aboard the U.S.S. Cerritos. Set in the far future (2380), the first iteration of the show opened to mixed reviews. However, fans did admire its amusing storyline, great animation style, and satirical tropes. But this is expected since ‘Star Trek’ has set a high standard for itself. And anything made as an extension to this fan-favorite franchise instantly draws comparisons. That being said, with season 1 of ‘Lower Decks’ having wrapped up, let’s get to the details of its next edition.

Star Trek: Lower Decks Season 2 Release Date:

‘Star Trek: Lower Decks’ season 1 premiered on August 6, 2020, on CBS All Access. It ended with its 10th episode on October 8, 2020. When CBS announced ‘Lower Decks’ in October 2018, it had confirmed that the show was given a two-season order. Production on both the seasons had started simultaneously in March 2020. In fact, the voicing, animation, and editing for season 2 are already in the process — though remotely, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. CBS All Access hasn’t announced a release date yet, but we can expect ‘Star Trek: Lower Decks’ season 2 to premiere sometime in early 2021.

Star Trek: Lower Decks Season 2 Cast: Who Can be in it?

Season 2 will see almost the entire voice cast of ‘Star Trek: Lower Decks’ season 1 making a comeback. We have Tawny Newsome as Becket Mariner, Jack Quaid as Brad Boimler, Noel Wells as D’Vana Tendi, Eugene Cordero as Sam Rutherford, Jerry O’Connell as Commander Jack Ransom, and Dawnn Lewis as Captain Carol Freeman.

In the season 1 finale, the Security Chief Lt. Shaxs (Fred Tatasciore) sacrifices himself to save the U.S.S. Cerritos. Therefore, we expect his role to be replaced by another character (voiced by a new voiceover star) in season 2. Again, Q (John de Lancie), Captain William T. Riker (Jonathan Frakes), and Commander Deanna Troi (Marina Sirtis) have a guest appearance in the season 1 conclusion. Lancie, Frakes, and Sirtis have been confirmed to return for season 2 as well.

Star Trek: Lower Decks Season 2 Plot: What Can it be About?

The last episode of ‘Lower Deck’ season 1 sees the USS Cerritos on the verge of being destroyed by the Pakleds. But then, another ship named the USS Titan, reaches to save the day. Captain William T. Riker and Commander Deanna Troi had been transferred to the Titan after Data died in 2379. In 2380, Troi and Riker are still on the Titan. Toward the end, Boimler is promoted and he leaves the Cerritos to join the Titan.

Season 2 will see how Boimler adjusts to the new role and starship — since being on the Titan was always his dream. Now that he is away from his bestie Mariner, it is yet to be seen if he continues to stay on the Titan. And if he does, will his other Lower Deck crew join him as well? Season 2 is expected to give us answers to all these questions.
