Based on a 2015 visual novel video game by 5pb, Steins;Gate 0 is the sequel to the 2011 anime television series, Steins;Gate. The visual novel video game Steins;Gate 0 was released on December 1, 2015 and served as the sequel to the 2009 visual novel video game, Steins;Gate.

Following the release of Steins;Gate 0, the game was adapted into a manga series by Taka Himeno and the series began serialization in the Young Ace manga magazine on July 4, 2017. Subsequently, famed Japanese anime studio White Fox announced plans to adapt the game into an anime television series and Season 1 of Steins;Gate 0 premiered on April 12, 2018. It was deemed to be a success by fans of the game, manga series and new viewers alike and since then, fans have been waiting to hear news on a second season. Here’s everything we know about the prospects of Season 2 thus far.

Steins;Gate 0 Season 2 Release Date: When will it premiere?

Steins;Gate 0 season 1, consisting of 23 episodes, premiered on April 12, 2018 and ran till September 27 of the same year. Months later, on December 21, 2018, White Fox released a special episode titled Steins;Gate 0: Kesshou Takei no Valentine – Bittersweet Intermedio. However, as it stands, a second season has not been ordered yet.

That being said, there’s no reason to get worried just yet if you’re looking forward to a second season of Steins;Gate 0. Anime shows sometimes take years to renew and hence there’s plenty of time left for White Fox to announce a renewal. Further, there are other factors which are in favour of a second season being made.

Firstly, Steins;Gate 0 is the sequel to an earlier anime series and is part of a hugely popular and successful franchise. Secondly, new chapters of manga adaptation of the game are still being published, and hence there’s plenty of source material for a second season. Thirdly, the show is not just popular in Japan and has a strong international fanbase and therefore, there are a lot of financial incentives to make another season.

Given the above facts, we think that there is a strong chance of Season 2 being made. However, the anime industry is an unpredictable one and there’s no way we can be certain on what awaits the show till White Fox or any other company tied to its production makes an official announcement on the show’s future. We’re keeping our ears open for news on of Steins;Gate 0 season 2 release date and we’ll update this section as soon as we hear something reliable.

Steins;Gate 0 Plot:

Steins;Gate 0 takes place in an alternative future following the events of Steins;Gate and follows the original protagonist, Rintarou Okabe. Traumatized and depressed by his failure to rescue his friend, Makise Kurisu, Rintarou has given up his life as a mad scientist and now lives as an ordinary college student. Understandably, Rintarou thus finds himself surrounded by ordinary people living normal lives and he struggles to cope with his memories from his time travel experiences and the horrific tragedies which have befallen him.

However, Rintarou’s life takes a dramatic turn in spite of his efforts to live a normal life. While working as a receptionist at a technology forum, Rintarou meets a girl named Maho Hiyajo, who turns out to be the interpreter for one Professor Alexis Leskinen. Subsequently, Professor Leskinen and Maho unveil a revolutionary artificial intelligence (AI) technology dubbed Amadeus, which allows people to use a deceased person’s memories to create an exact replica of that person including their personality. After the presentation, Rintarou meets Professor Leskinen and Maho, and learns that both of them were Makise’s colleagues at university. He also learns that they have simulated Makise using Amadeus. Subsequently, Rintarou is given the chance to interact with the simulated Makise and provide his feedback on the authenticity of the simulation. This gives Rintarou the chance to interact with a long-lost friend. However, being tangled in the past, Rintarou must tread this path carefully and try to avoid the disastrous consequences which emerge from manipulating time.
