The relationship between America and Russia and has been complicated, to say the least. The Cold War was the time when the tension was at its peak. The resentment wasn’t just on a political level; it was ingrained with the pride of the nation, with the patriotism. It is in this state of affairs that ‘The Americans’ sets its premise.

Created by Joe Weisberg, it follows the story of a couple of Russian spies who pose as a regular American family. The story begins with the era of Ronald Reagan. Weisberg, who also executive produces the show, happens to be a former CIA agent. He takes on a complicated topic and takes a bold stance by asking his viewers and fans to root for the bad guys. Along with him, Joel Fields, Graham Yost, Justin Falvey, Darryl Frank, Gavin O’Connor, Daniel Sackheim, Chris Long and Stephen Schiff also serve as executive producers. Airing on FX, the show gained a strong fan following and was received by critics as one of the best shows of its time. It has received two Peabody Awards, two Critics’ Choice Television Awards and a Golden Globe. For his performance in the final season, Matthew Rhys received an Emmy and Weisberg won for Outstanding Writing.

The Americans Plot: What is it about?

The year is 1981. Phillip and Elizabeth Jennings have been living as Americans in Washington DC since a long time. They even have two children, Paige and Henry, but they are unaware of their parents’ affiliations. Over the course of various seasons, the Jennings try to keep their secret intact while trying to gather information for the KGB. They get in very tricky circumstances, and even their children become entangled in their mess. Their loyalties are tested, come dangerously close to defecting, the tug of war between patriotism and survival ensues. To add to their problems, they have a new neighbour who is an FBI agent, who starts to get a bit suspicious. The series thrives on whether they will or won’t get caught, and if or if not their real identities will get revealed. They start having few close calls. Even their daughter Paige starts wondering about a few things. Consumed by the fear of getting caught, Philip also suggests making some sort of deal with the FBI, but his wife is quite appalled by that idea. Of the two, she is more tightly wound.

The Americans Season 7 Release Date: Will it happen?

‘The Americans’ season 6 premiered on March 28, 2018. Ever since its first season, the show hasn’t allowed anyone to have the chance to criticise it. From the excellent performances by the actors to the tightly woven plot that leaves breathtaking cliffhangers at the end of every season, it is a surprise that this show was snubbed from Emmys for five whole seasons. However, the acknowledgement finally came with the sixth season when Rhys and Weisberg won awards in their categories.

The finale was not only the best season of the bunch but also brought the story of the Jennings to a proper conclusion. In his storytelling, Weisberg didn’t allow himself to go slack at any time. He always knew exactly how it was going to end for the Russian spy family. While the decision for renewals and cancellations generally takes place season to season, for ‘The Americans’ the end had been declared two years prior. The showrunners knew the direction for the end since the second season itself and they stuck with the idea which materialised in the form of the final season.

All things considered, it seems unlikely that the show will ever come back. Though, never rule out a possibility of a reboot or a spin-off even. If that happens, we will make sure that we update this section with any new information we have on The American season 7 release date.

The Americans Trailer

A lot of shows gain the love of the audience over the course of their many seasons. Some start slow, others become instant hits. But the one thing that they all have in common is that they all have to come to an end. Hence, what’s more important than your run is the way you end it. There have been shows like ‘Breaking Bad‘ that have been exceptional, beginning to end. And then there are ones like ‘Game of Thrones‘ that became a worldwide phenomenon, but faltered towards the end and left their legacy on a bitter note. ‘The Americans’ will always be remembered in league with the better ones. You can experience it again by rewatching all six seasons on Prime Video. Here is the trailer of the final season to remind you how awesome this show is.
