Showtime’s critically acclaimed drama, ‘The Chi’, created by Lena Waithe, chronicles the lives of a bunch of residents in Chicago’s South Side neighborhood. It originally dropped on the channel on January 7, 2018, and opened to spectacular reviews. The award-winning series has been lauded for exploring the complexities of life in the South Side. Moreover, fans have also praised it for its captivating characters, well-constructed storylines, and remarkable performances. The Chi Season 3 Release Date: When Will it Premiere?
‘The Chi’ Season 2 premiered on April 7, 2019, on Showtime. In ended with its 10th episode on June 16, 2019. On April 30, 2019, the show was renewed by the channel for its third outing. ‘The Chi’ Season 3 is slated to premiere on June 21, 2020, at 9 pm ET/PT. It will consist of 10 new episodes and will wrap up with the finale on August 23, 2020.
The Chi Season 3 Cast
Jason Mitchell, who had starred as one of the lead characters, Brandon Johnson in seasons 1 and 2, will not be returning for season 3 because of “misconduct allegations.” Tiffany Boone as Jerrika Little (Brandon’s girlfriend) will also not be seen in the next iteration. All of the other lead stars will, however, be reprising their original characters. We will see the rest of the three protagonists, Ntare Guma Mbaho Mwine as Ronnie Davis, Jacob Latimore as Emmett Washington, and Alex Hibbert as Kevin Williams.
Joining them are Michael Epps as Jake Taylor, Shamon Brown as Stanley Jackson, Yolonda Ross as Jada Washington (Emmett’s mum), Armando Riesco as Detective Cruz, and Birgundi Baker as Keisha Williams (Kevin’s sister). Creator Lena Waithe will make an appearance in season 3 as a progressive lesbian, gearing up for the mayoral run.
The Chi Season 3 Plot: What Can it be About?
‘The Chi’ Season 2 ended with multiple unresolved storylines, which are expected to be addressed in the upcoming edition. We will see how Jake deals with the aftermath of his older brother Reg’s accident. Kevin needs to adjust to his new North Side school while Emmett, in the absence of his business partner, Brandon, has to handle his entrepreneurship venture alone. Now coming to one of the key characters, Brandon, who will not be seen in season 3, the creators have stated that his departure won’t affect the story much. After all, the show is led by an ensemble cast and there are multiple journeys to be covered in the episodes.
One of the important storylines explored in season 3 revolves around a missing teenage girl. The community, after learning this shocking news, comes together to locate her. Most of the events of ‘The Chi’ are inspired by real-life incidents. And this particular plot arc has been conceptualized to draw the attention of people toward the dismissal of missing black girls by cops in Chicago’s South Side, in reality.
