Christmas brings with itself not just a lot of joy, but also a lot of feel good films. These films are really special and help spread the cheer, telling happy and inspiring tales targeted at families and intended to make you feel good about yourselves. That being said, there are several Christmas movies that are only okay, but Netflix’s ‘The Christmas Chronicles’ certainly does not fall in this category.
The film came out in 2018 and immediately caught people’s eyes for the performances and the overall feeling. The plot follows two siblings, Kate, and Teddy, who hatch a plan to capture Santa Claus on Christmas Eve. However, the plan goes awry and soon they find themselves joining forces with the jolly Saint Nick and his elves, trying to save Christmas altogether.
The success of Netflix movies isn’t measured in terms of revenue but in terms of viewership. Thus, it would be important to note that ‘The Christmas Chronicles’ got 20 million streams in its first week itself, on Netflix. It has also remained one of the most demanded Netflix originals over the years. Thus, it would stand to reason that there would be a sequel to the movie, and it appears that fans are getting exactly what they have wished for. The Christmas Chronicles 2 Plot: What Can It Be About?
‘The Christmas Chronicles’ is firmly about Santa’s adventures during Christmas. The first movie sees him struggling to deliver presents with the help of two kids after his sleigh meets with an accident, disrupting his busy schedule. While the film is delightful, the end of the movie has a cameo from Mrs. Claus, and we are sure that the sequel will involve both of them in the tale.
So, what could ‘The Christmas Chronicles 2’ be about? Well, for starters, we are likely to see both Nick and Mrs. Claus this time. Thus, the adventure will most probably take place in their home in the North Pole. We also saw Santa’s elves and how helpful they could be in tough situations. The sequel would do well to use their talents to drive the plot forward.
Since we have already seen a movie that is set during Christmas, ‘The Christmas Chronicles 2’ could be set before Christmas, which must be a tough time for Santa as well, since he has to take note of the wishes of all the kids over the world and deliver gifts to them. The plot could very well focus on some crisis that arises before Christmas, needing immediate attention from Santa, Mrs. Claus, and the Elves. The film could also focus on how the idea of Christmas is changing, showing Santa struggling to keep the magic of the occasion alive.
Alternately, there is a chance that ‘The Christmas Chronicles 2’ could show Santa struggling once again to deliver gifts, as he is joined by new kids on his adventures this time. The possibilities are limitless, but we do know that Netflix will be going for a similar tone in the sequel since the first movie was successful among viewers.
The Christmas Chronicles 2 Cast: Who Can Be In It?
Kurt Russell appears as Santa Claus in ‘The Christmas Chronicles’ and he brings a new edge to the role. Santa Claus is happy, jolly, and fun-loving, but Russell’s performance brings a dash of action hero to the part as well, which makes Santa quite different in our eyes. The actor is already slated to appear in the sequel and will be reprising his role as Saint Nick. Goldie Hawn managed to surprise viewers by appearing as Mrs. Claus at the end of the movie, and now that such a wonderful character has been revealed, we are sure that she will be back in ‘The Christmas Chronicles 2’.
Apart from that, there could be new cast additions based on the direction that the story is taking.
The Christmas Chronicles 2 Crew: Who Can Be Behind It?
We already know that Chris Columbus is going to direct the movie. His 1492 Pictures was the production company backing the first film, but it is great news to see Columbus in the director’s chair. In case you don’t know, the man is famous for movies like ‘Home Alone‘ and ‘Harry Potter‘, though this will be his return to Christmas films after ‘Home Alone 2’. We expect great things from such an experienced director.
