‘The End of the F***ing World’ is based on the eponymous graphic novel by Charles Forsman and is a British dark comedy that airs on Channel 4 (although many fans believe it to be a Netflix original). The eight-part season 1 premiered in the UK on October 24, 2017, after which all eight episodes were released on Netflix for international viewing on January 5, 2018.

The show is about two teens, James, a self-proclaimed psychopath, and Alyssa, his rebellious classmate — who embark on an escapade of self-discovery that culminates in a series of mishaps. Created by Jonathan Entwistle, ‘The End of the F***ing World’ season 1 concludes in exactly the same manner as the tale ends in the books. So, after the first season wrapped up, there were slim chances of the show getting renewed for another installment. However, noting the incredible response from audiences, Netflix surprisingly recommissioned it for another season in August 2018. Now, the question you must be asking is: will there be a ‘The End of the F***ing World’ season 3? Let’s find out.

The End of the Fucking World Cast: Who’s in it?

Alex Lawther from ‘Black Mirror‘ fame stars as James, a 17-year-old teen who thinks that he is a psychopath. Jessica Barden plays Alyssa, James’ classmate and a rebellious teenage girl. Gemma Whelan is DC Eunice Noon, Wunmi Mosaku is DC Teri Darego, Steve Oram is Phil, Christine Bottomley is Gwen, Navin Chowdhry is Tony, and Barry Ward is Leslie Foley.

The End of the Fucking World Plot: What is it about?

James, a 17-something teen, believes that he has the hidden qualities of a psychopath. Since his childhood, he has been killing animals as a hobby and when he gets bored of the monotonous practice, he decides to up his game — and this time, decides to focus his attention on a human.

James targets his classmate, the loud-mouthed, rebellious 17-year-old Alyssa. However, Alyssa has her own problems. She finds in James a means to escape from the chaos of her home and suggests that they run away together. James considers it the ideal chance to land his first victim. But on their road trip across England, the duo starts developing a relationship that is plagued with a series of mishaps.

In season 1, James and Alyssa decide to find the latter’s estranged dad, who later on, turns out to be a worthless scrounger. The duo then rests in a house which they believe is empty. However, unexpectedly, the owner returns out of nowhere and to make matters worse, he is a serial killer. When the murderous man attacks Alyssa, James protects her by killing him. As a result, the pair flees from the scene and when Alyssa’s dad informs the cops about their whereabouts, DC Noon catches up with them.

James, after being apprehended, confessed to everything and claims that Alyssa is innocent. But the latter tries to rescue her new-found love interest by knocking out DC Noon and running away with James. But James hits Alyssa to stop her from escaping and makes his way to the beach. This is when we hear a gunshot and everything turns black.

As per star Lawther, the original ending scene “left it more unlikely that James was alive. I really like [the chosen ending] because it means we can do a second season.” And yes, a second season did return, featuring our lead actors as the protagonists. Lawther further added that making another installment was an opportunity for Charlie Covell to make the show her own. He said, “It would give [her]…a chance to explore something from her imagination. I would be very excited about [that] because I think she’s brilliant.”

Season 2 picks up “two years on, with Alyssa still dealing with the fallout of the events of the first series”. James, does he return? Yes! In all his glory to embark on another series of misadventures with his equally weird partner. Approaching a fresh and exciting premise, the second season is even more riveting than the first. It is set in a world, where two of our favorite characters are on the road, doing something in a strange land. So wherever the story goes, the duo will be out there — somewhere.

Yes, the plot gets more interesting. But we think it’s best to not give away more spoilers. Watch the series and get a taste of this wonderful show that has been praised worldwide for its writing, execution and subject matter, and for Lawther and Barden’s performances. It was nominated for the 2018 British Academy Television Award for Best Drama Series

The End of the Fucking World Season 3 Release Date: When will it premiere?

‘The End Of The F***ing World’ season 2 officially began production from March 2019. The highly anticipated drama premiered on Channel 4 in the UK on Monday, November 4, 2019. The eight-episode season 2 released on Netflix on November 5, 2019.

Now, as far as a third season goes, you should know that ‘The End Of The F***ing World’ already exhausted its source material in season 1 itself. So, chances for a third season seems slim. Even creator Charlie Covell says season 2 is the last outing for the hit series. But who knows? Even ‘13 Reasons Why‘ was first released as a one-off. But its dedicated fan-base is keeping it alive. So, let’s wait till Netflix comes up with an official announcement. Who know we could still get to see ‘The End Of The F***ing World’ season 3.
