CBS announced that it will air the entire first season of the series ‘The Good Fight‘ on June 16. The drama series, which is a spinoff of the hit CBS show ‘The Good Wife,’ is created by Robert and Michelle King and features Christine Baranski in the lead role. ‘The Good Fight’ had been available only on the CBS All Access SVOD service.
CBS president and acting CEO Joe Ianniello revealed that the summer release of the first season of ‘The Good Fight’ is a move to promote awareness of the show and CBS All Access, the subscription streaming service. ‘The Good Fight’ was the major topic of discussion in CBS annual shareholders meeting, which was held at the Museum of Modern Art.
The 2017 series ‘The Good Fight’ is the first CBS All Access original drama. The All Access exclusive garnered widespread critical acclaim during its three-season run. ‘The Good Fight’ wrapped up the 10-episode season 3 on May 16. The CBS strategy of keeping it an All Access exclusive helped the show in its immense success. All Access reportedly has an estimated customer base of 4 million.
The network’s move to bow the hit series on CBS in the coming summer season is expected to attract more subscribers to the fourth season of ‘The Good Fight,’ which is due in the first quarter of next year on All Access. The first two episodes of ‘The Good Fight’ season 1 will be aired back-to-back starting at 9 p.m on Sunday, June 16 on CBS. The episodes 3 and 4 will bow in the same slot in the following week. The timing will then move to 10 p.m. Sunday for episode 5.
“For three seasons, The Good Fight has been a big success for CBS All Access,” President of Entertainment at CBS, Kelly Kahl told Deadline. “We’re excited to provide our network audience the opportunity to catch up with characters they first fell in love with on The Good Wife, as well as introduce new viewers to this outstanding, critically acclaimed drama.”
‘The Good Fight’ picks up the timeline one year after the events of ‘The Good Wife’ finale. The young lawyer Maia Rindell (played by Rose Leslie) and her mentor and godmother Diane Lockhart (played by Baranski) struggle to deal with the aftermaths of a huge financial scam. The unfortunate events have devastated the fortunes and reputation of Lockhart and Lee. Rindell and Diane join Lucca Quinn (played by Cush Jumbo) at one of the African-American law firms to start their journey from the beginning.
The series is produced by CBS Television Studios along with Scott Free Productions and King Size Productions. Robert and Michelle King serve as showrunners and executive producers of the series. The show is co-created by Phil Alden Robinson. Other executive producers include Ridley Scott, David Zucker, Liz Glotzer, Brooke Kennedy, and Alison Cross.
