‘The Last Cowboy’ is an unscripted television series that airs on Paramount Network. The series has been envisioned and created by Taylor Sheridan, who is the writer of films like ‘Hell or High Water’ and ‘Sicario’. He is also the writer and director of ‘Wind River’, a 2017 neo-Western murder mystery film. Sheridan also happens to be the co-creator of the acclaimed Paramount Network television series ‘Yellowstone’.

The non-fiction series is based on the world of the highly competitive sports of professional reining. Reining is a western-based competition wherein the riders maneuver their horses through a designed circuit of circles, spins, and stops. The show chronicles the days in the lives of eight professional cowboys during their preparatory phase leading up to the competition called, “The Run for A Million”.

What is The Last Cowboy  About?

‘The Last Cowboy’ is an unscripted series wherein each episode chronicles a professional reining rider and shows in detail how the riders train both themselves and their horses before they all together compete in an arena-based competition called “The Run For A Million”.

‘The Last Cowboy’ “chronicles the lives of eight men and women who compete on the regular reining circuit, a western-based competition where riders guide horses through a precise pattern of circles, spins, and stops. These horsemen are determined to elevate and preserve the cowboy tradition as they train and engage in the exclusive ultra-competitive sport.”

Taylor Sheridan shared his excitement about launching the show in a statement, saying, “The grit, beauty, and tenacity of the West are linked to America’s legacy, and my creative drive has been to explore those, in all their complexities, in film and scripted television. Now, with ‘The Last Cowboy’ and ‘Run for a Million,’ we’re bringing the real men and women, and their dedication to the sport of reining, to the small screen, an unmasking of the cowboy world that we hope TV audiences will enjoy.”
