The Last Drive-In With Joe Bob Briggs stars Joe Bob Briggs, an American syndicated film critic, writer and comic. Briggs started his career by creating a stage persona. He portrayed a Texas-based redneck who has an unapologetic attitude, a love for beer and the drive-in theatre.

Briggs was previously the host on Drive-In Theatre in 1986.  Later in 1996, he hosted MonsterVision for 4 years until the show changed to a no-host format. Besides this, Briggs is a comic and a writer. His columns are famous for colorful tales of women troubles or brushes with the law which usually ends with him going to the drive-in theatre with a female companion.

Briggs first rose to fame when he starred as a host in 1986 on Drive-In Theatre, a late-night B-movie show on The Movie Channel (TMC). In 1996, Briggs starred as the host of MonsterVision, on the TNT network. MonsterVision featured Briggs reviewing Bizarre, mostly horror or schlock films from the 1970’s to the 1990’s. The show was well-received across the US, mainly because of Briggs’ persona and humorous way of reviewing. It was a surprise when Briggs was asked to leave the show 4 years later when they decided to go for a no-host format. Briggs later disappeared from the limelight and his persona became legendary and nostalgic for fans.

In 2018, it was declared that Bob Briggs will be returning with the drive-in theatre. Fans were buzzing as most of them agreed that this was the longest due comeback in television history. Subsequently, the video-on-demand service ShudderTV announced that it was going to bring back the show.

On July 13, 2018, ShudderTV aired the show titled ‘The Last Drive-In With Bob Briggs’. This was a 13-horror film back-to-back marathon of films handpicked by Joe Bob Briggs. Briggs returned with his spectacular reviews with a pint of beer in hand breaking down movie after movie. During the premiere, the response was so overwhelming that ShudderTV’s servers crashed due to the overload of user subscriptions for their LIVE stream feature. In Spite of the server problems, the series received critical acclaim and was loved my fans and critics alike.

Briggs’s real name is John Irving Bloom and he purposely took a stage name to match his persona. He later revealed that he intended the name to be ‘Bubba Rodriguez’ but later switched since he decided to go for the ‘whitest possible name’. Joe Bob Briggs is a legendary figure in American culture, all thanks to his unique way of delivering his words and reviews. His persona of a Texan redneck delivering parodies of urbane, high-brow movie criticism and his love for the drive-in theatre is something that is so relatable to his fans and reflects their lifestyle. The Last Drive-In With Joe Bob Briggs Release Date: When will it premiere?

The Last Drive-In With Joe Bob Briggs season 1 premiered on July 13, 2018 on the famous American horror video on-demand service, ShudderTV. The premiere included a 13 horror film marathon which included the greatest horror films of all time as chosen by Joe Bob Briggs. The premiere went on for a 26-hour, 35-minutes block. On July 20th, Shudder announced two more short marathons on Christmas Day and on Thanksgiving.

On March 29, the show returned to its classic format of a double feature streaming live every Friday. The last episode of season 1 aired on May 24th, 2019. Social media posts on May 22, 2019 confirmed that The Last Drive-In has been renewed. The second season will also feature live, weekly double features with Joe Bob Briggs and his classic style. The date is yet to be announced by ShudderTV, but we expect The Last Drive-In With Joe Bob Briggs season 2 to premiere sometime in early 2020.
