The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel IV: Everything We Know

The long running The Legend of Heroes saga of Japanese Role Playing Games (JRPGs) has been a popular staple in Japan for decades, but its reach and popularity in the West has been rather limited given the lack of accessibility for many of its releases. This is exactly the case with ‘The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel IV’, the fourth game in the ‘Trails of Cold Steel’ meta series of the overall The Legend of Heroes chronicles.

The new game is the concluding chapter in an epic story line that kicked off with the first ‘The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel’ game in 2013, which itself was a chronological continuation after the ‘Trails in the Sky’ meta series. However, while the game is already out in Japan, there is no concrete news of a Western release yet. Read on to find out everything we know about ‘The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel IV’, and when we can expect it to launch in Western markets.

The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel IV Plot: What is It About?

The ‘Trails of Cold Steel’ game is set in the Erebonian Empire and is centered around Class VII member Rean Schwarzer at Thors Military Academy, the only place that doesn’t discriminate and segregate based on social classes. The game’s story line takes you through the school year as you discover the harsh reality of the empire and investigate an old mysterious building known as the Old Schoolhouse. The game eventually ramps up to a thrilling climax, with intrigue, subterfuge and the assassination of an important political figure.

The second game titled ‘The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel II’ came out only a year later in 2014, and continued the story of Rean Schwarzer along with his divine knight Valimar. Rean quickly finds himself embroiled in the Erebonian civil war, and he must gather his old friends from Thors Military Academy in order to put an end to the bloody madness.

The threequel ‘The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel III’ came out in 2017, and takes place one and a half years after the events of the previous game. Rean Schwarzer is now a military professor, and he sets about to uncover the mysterious origins of his own birth. The game also explored some of the events that transpired in between the second and third games.

The latest and final game in the saga, ‘The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel IV’ starts off at the beginning of the Great Twilight, an awful curse that spreads all over the Erebonian Empire. Rean Schwarzer is now the fabled Ashen Chevalier, and his power grows day after day until his true self starts to fade. Now, the old and new members of Class VII must now band together in order to save the world from impending doom.

The game will feature a Singleplayer campaign, with no Multiplayer mode to speak of at launch.

The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel 4 Release Date: When And Where Can I Play It?

‘The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel IV’ released on September 27, 2018 exclusively for the PlayStation 4. While there is no concrete news of a Western release yet, the developers have spoken of their desire to bring their new game across the pond in the near future.

The previous games in the franchise have all received Western releases with full English language support exactly two years after the Japanese release, which means we can probably expect ‘The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel IV’ to launch sometime in 2020 in North America and Europe. In all likelihood, the game will maintain its PlayStation 4 exclusivity.
