HBO’s ‘The Outsider’ is the television adaptation of the novel written by Stephen King. The series premiered with two back-to-back episodes, which is enough to give us a clear idea of the direction that this story is to take. While it starts out as a murder mystery, it has hints of supernatural horror that are to become more pronounced in the coming episodes.
The first two episodes focus on the murder of Frankie Peterson. Detective Ralph Anderson doesn’t take much time to piece together what happened as he has enough witnesses to create a clear timeline of the crime. Then there are the fingerprints and the DNA evidence. The killer is definitely Terry Maitland. However, the high-school teacher fights for his innocence. Helping his case is the alibi that puts him miles away from the city, let alone the crime scene.
This raises an impossible question for the cops. How can one man be at two places at the same time? And then there is a mysterious figure in the background that no one pays attention to.

The Outsider Episode 3 Spoilers
Now that Terry Maitland is dead, the guilt weighs heavy on Ralph Anderson. In the beginning, he had actually believed that Terry was the one to kill Frankie Peterson. But Terry sticking to his innocence and then providing credible proof for it loosened his case. In his dying words, the man repeated that he hadn’t done it. Meanwhile, the rest of the Peterson family has succumbed too. This has made things even murkier for Ralph. But with the new information, he seems to be going somewhere.
The second episode ends with a man discovering the clothes that Terry was supposed to have change into at the strip club. In the third episode, we expect the cops to catch up with that. In the trailer, the place is shown to be swarming with police officers. Could it be that the young man deduced that there was something fishy with these clothes and he alerted the cops? Or worse, could it be that the hooded man came back to clean after himself? He found the young man there with the clothes and killed him? Are the cops at the place for the clothes or another dead body?
One of the main characters in ‘The Outsider’ is Holly Gibney. The character is played by Cynthia Erivo in the show. In the next episode, she could enter the picture and view the case from a new perspective, which would ultimately lead to the explanation of all the unexplained stuff. However, we are not so sure that Ralph will like what she has to say.
Diving further into the case and looking at suspects other than Terry Maitland could lead the officers to similar previous cases as well. How many children has this entity killed before? And what exactly is it?
