Will There be More of ‘The Outsider’?

HBO’s ‘The Outsider‘ is the adaptation of Stephen King’s book of the same name. Considering the love of the readers for King’s terrifying stories, the network picked it up for a series even before the book hit the stands. This shows how much faith it had in King and the fact that the audience will be drawn towards this disturbing tale of a young boy’s murder in a small town. The season follows a ten-episode arc and brings the story to a proper conclusion. But leaves us with an eerie detail which means that it might not be the end of the nightmare just yet. So, what does that mean for ‘The Outsider’? Will it get a second season? Let’s find out.

The Outsider Season 2: When will it Premiere?

The Outsider‘ Season 1 premiered on HBO on January 12, 2020, and concluded on March 8, 2020. The series has received positive reviews, the praise particularly directed towards its slow-burn and the intrigue that it keeps alive in the entire season. It is also hailed as one of the best King adaptations of recent times, especially on television.

The series also enjoyed the same love from the viewers. The ratings continued to soar for it after each episode. For its premiere, it did not get an encouraging response. But with every passing week, the viewers got hooked on it better and better. By the series finale, it broke all its previous records and got the best ratings for its viewership.

The series is based on the novel of the same name by Stephen King, which is why the story is wrapped up in one season. It had been tagged as a miniseries by HBO, which generally means that there will be no more seasons. However, Richard Price, the executive producer of the show, wondered if this will change after the explosive ratings that the show received. Considering the previous trend, most notably with ‘Big Little Lies‘, HBO is known to have continued the series, despite its initial intentions to keep it a limited series event.

For now, no official announcements have been made by HBO about the renewal or the cancellation of ‘The Outsider’. If the show does receive the second season, we expect ‘The Outsider‘ Season 2 to release sometime in 2021 or later.

The Outsider Season 2 Plot: What can it be about?

‘The Outsider’ Season 1 ends with Ralph making sure that El Cuco does not return to terrorise someone else. He smashes its head with a stone, which leaves no doubt that the monster really is dead. The story that he, Sablo, Holly and Claude come up with helps exonerate Terry Maitland, and they know that Frankie Peterson, and his family, has received the justice that they deserved. But that was just one of its kind.

We still don’t know where the monster came from, what made it, and most importantly, if there are others like it out there. This detail had also been hinted upon when a new case of a child murder comes to the attention of the DA. At that time, El Cuco had been in Cecil, which means that it could not have committed that crime, which means that there is another El Cuco out there.

The Outsider Season 2 Cast: Who can be in it?

In the end, only Holly, Ralph, Sablo and Claude come out alive of the caves. In the next season, we could see them team up again to defeat the next monster. If not all of them, then at least Cynthia Erivo will surely be a part of Season 2. Michael Esper, who plays the role of Kenneth Hayes, could also return due to his connection with the Frankie Peterson case, as well as his knowledge of the new murder. He was kept out of the loop in the first season, so the second one could focus on his scepticism and struggle to believe, just as the first one focused on Ralph’s refusal of believing in the unexplainable. Some new faces will also join the cast.
