The battle shounen genre seemed to be on a decline until shows like ‘My Hero Academia‘ and ‘The Seven Deadly Sins’ took the world of anime by storm. With a very unique premise and an intriguing cast of characters, ‘The Seven Deadly Sins’ made a big name for itself in the anime community. It first started off by familiarizing its audience to its storyline in the first season and then in the seasons that followed, it really picked up its pace and unleashed all of its madness on the anime world.

Unfortunately, the recent season of the anime was, for the most part, not able to live up to the expectations of its fans only because of its subpar animation. However, with a promise to improve, the epic shounen will now be returning with a whole new season. Here’s everything you need to know about it.

The Seven Deadly Sins Season 5 Release Date: When will it premiere?

‘The Seven Deadly Sins’ season 1 premiered on October 5, 2014, and with a total of 24 episodes, it finished airing on March 29, 2015. This was then followed by a second season which aired from August 28, 2016 to September 18, 2016. The third season, ‘The Seven Deadly Sins: Revival of the Commandments’, premiered on January 13, 2018 and went on till  June 30, 2018. And the recent fourth season aired from October 9, 2019 to March 25, 2020. Now for those who are confused by the title of this preview, Season 5 refers to the order in which Netflix released the show. According to most anime “purists”, the second season is nothing but a four-episode OVA, so going by that order, the upcoming season of the anime is season 4.

With that out of the way, fans of the show would be delighted to know that the fifth season of ‘The Seven Deadly Sins’ is now confirmed. Titled ‘Nanatsu no Taizai: Fundo no Shinpan’ (‘The Seven Deadly Sins: Judgement of Fury’), ‘The Seven Deadly Sins’ Season 5 was previously scheduled to release sometime in October 2020. However, because of the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, it has now been delayed. Any official news regarding its release will be updated here.

Other details regarding this season are still under the covers, but it is a possibility that Studio Deen (‘Fate/ Stay Night‘, ‘Vampire Knight‘) will again be animating it. According to reports, Studio Deen had previously outsourced the animation for season 4 to a Korean animation studio and because of that, the animation quality of the entire season was not too great compared to its predecessors. So it is possible that Studio Deen will completely handle the series on its on this time. No announcements regarding this have been made yet,  so we’ll just have to wait and see.

If we compare the anime with the original manga, close 80 chapters of the source have not been adapted yet. So there’s clearly a lot of source material left for the next season. In fact, a new volume of the manga, titled ‘The Seven Deadly Sins: The Four Knights of the Apocalypse’ (Nanatsu no Taizai: Mokushiroku no Yon-Kishi), is also in the works, so we can certainly expect a season 6 as well.
