Before you go further into this article, you should know that it has some major spoilers for ‘The Umbrella Academy’ Season 2. If you haven’t caught up with the show yet, head over to Netflix.

‘The Umbrella Academy’ returns with a second season that is much more entertaining and exhilarating than the first. It packs a lot of twists and turns, and there is so much action in it that you barely have time to breathe. Some very weird things happen this time around, and some shocking secrets come to light, all of which open more doors for the story and where it can go from here. Here are the five biggest revelations of Season 2 that leave you confused and dumbfounded. MAJOR SPOILERS AHEAD!

5. The Umbrella Academy Dies

The Umbrella Academy, despite the powers that the group has as a collective, is not invincible. And we find that out in the final episode where all of them are shot dead by the Handler. That would have been the end of the story, but the twist comes when Five makes use of his time-traveling powers, but not in the way he has before. Previously, he had jumped back and forth in time, going through the past, present, and future. But this time, he goes back for a matter of seconds, as advised by his father, and changes the course of events significantly. The Umbrella Academy comes back to life, but this also expands the prospects of Five’s powers.

4. Reginald Hargreeves Is An Alien

The mystery surrounding Reginald Hargreeves hasn’t unfolded completely yet, but the show has started to give us some hints about it. In the finale of Season 1, we saw him on a planet that did not seem like the Earth. It could very well have been the far-future, which also allowed fans to indulge in a theory suggesting that Five is actually Reginald Hargreeves. However, the second season clarifies on this not by hinting at something or through hearsay, but simply by showing us what the old man really is. If the mention of the Majestic 12 and Roswell hadn’t been enough, the real form of Reginald Hargreeves should confirm that he is an alien.

3. The Cause of the Apocalypse

The whole point of running away from 2019 to the 60s was to escape the apocalypse. Five thought that being in the past would allow them enough time to figure out how to stop the 2019 apocalypse. But he had to rethink his strategy when he landed smack in the middle of a nuclear war. It looked like the apocalypse had followed then to the past. But what, or rather, who did it follow? Did they bring the apocalypse with them? Turns out, yes. Luther was right when he expressed concern over taking Vanya into the past. Once again, she loses control of her powers and leads to the beginning of the war between America and the USSR, which ends in a nuclear holocaust.

2. Lila’s Powers

Lila is introduced to us as an inmate in a mental asylum, but soon, it turns out that she is saner and rather cleverer than some members of the Umbrella Academy. We have our suspicions about her, but what we don’t see coming is the fact that she has powers as well. This revelation is first hinted at when she fights Five, and he is unable to understand how she manages to stay one step ahead of him. In the final episode, she exhibits the full extent of her powers, when she mimics Vanya’s shockwave that kills everyone in its vicinity. It turns out that she, too, was born on October 1, 1989, and her power allows her to replicate the powers of her enemies.

1. The Sparrow Academy

The biggest twist of Season 2 is also its cliffhanger. After saving the world, and themselves, the Umbrella Academy finally gets to go back to their original timeline. They return to 2019, the day after the apocalypse, and it turns out that the world is alright. Somehow, by stopping the end of the world in 1963, they also stopped it in 2019. Their happiness knows no bounds, but they have to cut it short when they discover that the apocalypse is not the only thing that has changed about the world. It turns out, they messed up the timeline, and the events after their departure from the 60s took place differently. So differently, in fact, that Reginald Hargreeves survived, he named his group the Sparrow Academy, and Ben never died.
