How did The Weeknd earn his money and wealth?

The Weeknd, real name Abel Makkonen Tesfaye, was born on February 16, 1990, in Ontario, California to Makkonen and Samra Tesfaye. He is the only child and was brought up in Canada by his mother as well as grandmother as his father left the family when he was 1 or 2 years old. He attended two schools: West Hill Collegiate Institute and the Birchmount Park Collegiate Institute. However, he was removed from one while he took a drop from the other just after attending it for 6 months. The Weeknd later left his home and started living with his two friends in a one room house.

The Weeknd is not only a Canadian singer but is also a songwriter and a record producer. He began his music career when he met Jeremy Rose, a music producer. The duo started working on an R&B album called ‘The Weeknd.’ In the year 2010, The Weeknd created his Youtube channel, having the username ‘The Weeknd’ and uploaded a few songs on it, which were created by him. Soon, the songs became a hit and he earned popularity. In March 2011, he released a mixtape called ‘House of Balloons’ which consisted of 9 tracks. The Weeknd then started to perform live within a couple of months and also started a collaborative work along with rapper Drake. He then released his second mixtape called ‘Thursday; which contained nine tracks.

The Weeknd released his third mixtape called ‘Echoes of Silence’ in December 2011 which also consisted of nine songs. All the three mixtapes helped The Weeknd to gain a lot of fame and made him a star. In September 2012, he signed a deal with Republic Records and released an album called ‘Trilogy’ in the following month. Later in 2013, he released his debut studio album titled ‘Kiss Land’ which received a positive response from fans and critics. The same year, The Weeknd made contributions to the film ‘The Hunger Games: Catching Fire’ and later went on Justin Timberlake’s ‘The 20/20 Experience World Tour’.

The Weeknd released a duet ‘Love Me Harder’ along with Ariana Grande in the year 2014 and later went on to release the soundtrack of the film ‘Fifty Shades of Grey.’

He released his second studio album called ‘Beauty Behind the Madness’ in August 2015 which was again a hit. The Weeknd released his third studio album, ‘Starboy’ in November 2016 which featured guest appearances from musicians such as Future, Daft Punk among others. The same year-end, he worked on the song ‘FML’ with Kanye West, from his album ‘The Life of Pablo.’ He also appeared in the song ‘6 Inch Heels’ from the album ‘Lemonade’ by Beyonce.
