How did Tina Turner earn her money and wealth?

Tina Turner is known as the queen of rock ’n’ roll. Born as Anna Mae Bullock on November 26, 1939, in a small town of Nutbush, Tennessee to a small family, Tina is not just a singer but a songwriter, dancer, actress and author too. She started singing in local church choirs and a star was born. Tina was discovered when she was eighteen by Ike Turner, who she later married. She started her singing career by joining Turner’s band “Kings of Rhythm” in 1958 by the name of “Little Ann”. But her real success began in 1960 with the start of the amazing duo Ike & Tina Turner Revue. They were responsible for many great tracks which include “A Fool in Love”, “River Deep-Mountain High” (1966), “Proud Mary” (1971), and “Nutbush City Limits” (1973).

But that success was short lived because as the duo called it quits in 1976 and divorced in 1978. The reason for the divorce was cited to be domestic abuse, which was later confirmed by Tina in her autobiography, “I Tina”.

Then began her journey to make it own her own as a solo artist in 1980, but after much struggle, she finally got success  1983 with her hit single “Let’s Stay Together”. From then her career took a major turn and her solo album “Private Dancer” became a global phenomenon. The most famous track of the album “What’s Love Got to Do with It” won two Grammy’s including record of the year. She became a household name in the 1980s and 90s with her amazing records and many of her albums went multi-platinum including “Break Every Rule” and “Foreign Affair”. She was also behind the James Bond movie title track “GoldenEye” in 1995.

Not just in music, Turner also saw had a very successful acting career. Her best work includes “Acid Queen” (1975); rock musical Tommy, action film “Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome” (1985) and a guest role in the “Last Action Hero” (1993). After taking a break from the spotlight, she came back in 2008 with her comeback show Tina!: 50thAnniversary Tour.

Tina’s success can be measured from the fact that she has sold more than 200 million albums and singles worldwide and according to Guinness World Records she holds the record of selling most concert tickets as a solo performer in history. She also has a long list of Grammy Awards with a total of 12 awards, which include 3 Grammy Hall of Fame awards and a Grammy Lifetime Achievement award. She is the first female artist to have a top 40 hit in six consecutive decades in the UK. She has had a total of 34 top 40 hits and Rolling Stone declared her as 17th on their list of the 100 greatest singers of all time. Her other accolades include her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. In 2014, she was inducted into the Soul Music Hall of Fame Lifetime Achievement Award.
