‘Titans’ is an American action-adventure web television series that falls squarely within the superhero genre and packs an element of drama to boot. The science fiction show airs on the DC Universe, and first premiered on October 12, 2018. If it were not obvious, the characters are based on those from DC Comics and is specifically focused on the team known as Teen Titans. The show has been developed for television by Akiva Goldsman, Geoff Johns, and Greg Berlanti.

The show centers around Robin, the protege of Batman, who recruits young superheroes from around the world to fight evil. The team he forms is named Titans. Viewers might be interested to know that a show based the Teen Titans was underway at TNT since September 2014. However, in January 2016, the network announced that it would no longer move ahead with the project, which is when it found its new home.

Things seem to be going well with the show as it has amassed a strong fan following already. However, considering the series brings a better balanced and darker approach than the current crop of DC films, this is not really surprising. Critics have lauded the show too, saying, “Despite a few tonal growing pains, Titans does justice to its source material and truly shines when its titular ensemble finally assembles.” All in all, if you have read the Teen Titans comics or seen some of the animated movies, prepare to be pleasantly surprised with what they have done to the new series. Notably, the series’ growing popularity has also led to a spin-off, that is, ‘Doom Patrol‘.

Titans Season 3 Release Date: When will it premiere?

‘Titans’ Season 1 released on DC Universe on October 12, 2018, and concluded on December 21, 2018. All the 11 episodes were dropped collectively on Netflix on January 11, 2019. ‘Titans’ Season 2 released on September 6, 2019 and came to an end after 13 episodes on November 29, 2019.

In further good news for the fans, the show was renewed for a third season on November 12, 2019. No release date was revealed in the announcement, but you can expect ‘Titans’ Season 3 to release sometime in September 2020 or later.

Titans Cast: Who is in it?

The cast of ‘Titans’ is led by Brenton Thwaites, who plays the character of Richard ‘Dick’ Grayson or Robin, the leader, and recruiter of the ‘Titans’. Brenton started out as Batman’s protegé but formed the group to step out of his shadow. He is later seen burning the Robin costume, which is because he wishes to don his new mantle as Nightwing.

Anna Diop plays Starfire or Kory Anders, a powerful woman who is actually the princess of an alien planet. Teagan Croft appears as Raven or Rachel Roth, a mystical empath whose powers are driven by her emotions. Raven is the daughter of a powerful demon and feels the same sense of abandonment as Grayson.

Ryan Potter is seen as Beast Boy or Garfield “Gar” Logan, whose obvious power is to transfer into a beast. Alan Ritchson stars as Hawk and Minka Kelly as Dove. Hawk and Dove are in a relationship and fight crime together. There are several other characters, both in supporting and guest categories, who appear alongside the main cast members, like Seamus Dever appearing as Rachel’s father, Trigon the demon, who has the power to destroy entire worlds.

In season 2, most of the main characters return to resume starring in their original roles. Certain recurring characters are added to the lead cast, which includes Conor Leslie as Wonder Girl and Curran Walters as Jason Todd, Batman’s new Robin. Joshua Orpin stars as Conner Kent or Superboy. His character has been officially described as “Superboy, aka Conner Kent, is the angsty teenager of steel searching for purpose and the truth about his past. While looking for answers, he crashes into the world of the Titans where he finds an unlikely home and surrogate family as well as revelations that carry more complications than he ever bargained for”.

In the second season, Iain Glen, known for enacting Jorah Mormont on ‘Game of Thrones‘, steps into the role of Batman or Bruce Wayne for this show. The Titans meet their archnemesis, the deadly assassin, Deathstroke or Slade Wilson, who is played by Esai Morales. Chella Man appears as Joseph Wilson or Jericho, Slade’s mute son who can possess other people’s bodies through eye contact, and Chelsea Zhang appears as Rose Wilson or Ravager, Slade’s daughter.

Season 3, as and when it happens, is expected to see the lead cast reprising their original roles. The show might also witness new characters, played by fresh stars, to carry the story forward and add more plot points. We shall update this section with additional names as soon as DC offers further information.

Titans Plot: What is it about?

‘Titans’ is about Grayson joining forces with various other talented individuals and taking on the task of forming another team whose job it is to save the planet. However, most of these heroes are inexperienced and need training and the proper patience and compromise to form an effective crime-fighting team.

Comicbook has surmised the show in the best way possible, highlighting the good, the bad, and the core message, saying, “There are certain things in Titans that won’t work for everyone. The show can be a bit cheesy at times, and you might wonder if it’s taking itself too seriously. There are also just a few kinks in the scripts — slight pacing issues and a couple of lines that fall completely flat — but they are few and far between. For every moment that I thought about groaning, there are at least seven at which I laughed, cheered, or silently pumped my fist. At its core, Titans truly is a comic book come to life. It’s action-packed and exciting, funny from time to time, and most importantly, it has an engaging story that keeps you longing for that next issue.”

In the second season, Grayson builds an all-new team, comprising Rachel, Gar, and Jason. With the return of the Titans, deadly assassin Deathstroke also makes his appearance. With Deathstroke hell-bent on putting an end to the heroic team, the Titans have no other choice but to engage in the ultimate face-off.

‘Titans’ season 2 finale does set up the stage for an upcoming third season. The main antagonist is defeated but Blackfire, Starfire’s evil sister, lands on earth. She gains control of a woman in a grocery store and drives away on a minivan with the kids of the mom in it. So, it will be interesting to see how the new villain is tackled by the heroes and especially by Kory, after learning that it was Blackfire who had killed her parents.
