Apple TV’s first original British comedy series, ‘Trying’, tells the tale of a dysfunctional couple with an overwhelming desire to start a family. On realizing they can’t have one biologically, the couple brace themselves to face the drudgery and emotional affliction attached to the adopting process. Andy Wolton, best known for ‘The Coopers vs. the Rest,’ serves as the creator of the comedy-drama.
It is another addition to Apple TV’s comedy slate, which already comprises the critically acclaimed ‘Mythic Quest Raven’s Banquet.’ Fueled by lighthearted relationship drama, eccentric characters, and witty one-liners, ‘Trying’ has been dubbed by critics as ‘charming’ and an ‘instant delight’. In case you are wondering if there will be a ‘Trying’ season 2, we have got you covered. Keep reading!
Trying Season 2 Release Date: When Will it Premiere?
‘Trying’ season 1 premiered in all its entirety on May 1, 2020, at 3 am ET on Apple TV+. It consisted of eight episodes with a runtime of 28-30 minutes each.
Early as it might seem but star Esther Smith has already confirmed that we will see a new edition from the comedy-drama. Speaking to Metro, she said: “Yeah, we’ve been commissioned for a second series! Which I’m really thrilled about. We should be starting in the summer, but who knows what the world’s going to be looking like … So yes! There will be a second series. I just want to do it all over again, I could just keep doing it – there’s so much scope!”
So, there you go! If production commences in summer 2020, we can expect ‘Trying’ season 2 to premiere sometime in May 2021!
Trying Season 2 Cast: Who Can be in it?
The series features Rafe Spall as Jason, a laid-back husband whose marriage is stuck in a rut. You may recognize Spall from his performance in the Three Flavours Cornetto trilogy that comprises ‘Shaun of the Dead,’ ‘Hot Fuzz,’ and ‘The World’s End.’ Esther Smith appears as Jason’s wife Nikki, who is facing fertility issues. She is best known for her work in ‘Uncle’ and ‘Black Mirror’ – White Christmas.
BAFTA Award winner Imelda Staunton (‘Harry Potter,’ ‘Vera Drake’) steps into the role of Penny, adoption counselor. ‘Elementary’ fame Ophelia Lovibond stars as Erica, while ‘Bluestone 42’ actor Oliver Chris steps into the role of Freddy. The show also stars Robyn Cara as Jen, Sarah Niles as Alisha, and Jonathan Rhodes as Marcus.
In season 2, alongside Spall and Smith, we can expect most of the above cast members to make their respective comebacks.
Trying Season 2 Plot: What Can it be About?
Set in Camden, London, the show follows a 30-something couple, Nikki and Jason, who are facing fertility complications for quite some time. Apart from that, the two are also trying to reignite the spark in their married life. After doing some soul-searching and exploring multiple alternatives, the couple settles on adopting a baby to complete their family. But little do they know that the path to adoption is heavily loaded with numerous obstacles that can easily make anyone anxious and exhausted.
As they pursue adoption, the tedious and scary application process begins to test their patience and also the strength of the couple’s relationship. Soon Nikki and Jason realize that balancing work, friends, and family can be difficult when you have an immediate task at hand, one that possesses the ability to shape your unified future. Therefore, they seek help from an adoption consultant who guides the couple through the process.
By the end of the first season, we get the idea that Nikki and Jason are not really ready for what the future holds for them. Yet, they are still willing to embrace uncertainty. Season 2 should take up the story from here and follow the couple as they continue to weigh their options of welcoming a third member to the fam.
