Ulysses: Jeanne d’Arc and the Alchemist Knight Season 2: Premiere Date, Characters, Plot

Ulysses: Jeanne d’Arc and the Alchemist Knight (also known as Yurishīzu Jan’nu Daruku to Renkin no Kishi in Japanese) is a historical fantasy anime television series which is based on a light novel series of the same name. Written by Mikage Kasuga and illustrated by Tomari Meron, the light novel series was first published on August 25, 2015 and new chapters are being published even to this day. Till date, seven volumes and one prequel volume of the light novel series has been published. I

n 2018, the light novel series was adapted into a manga series with illustrations by Yagi Shinba and Hirafumi, and the manga adaptation, titled Ulysses: Jeanne d’Arc to Hyakunen Sensō no Himitsu, began serialization on the Dash X comic website starting February 2018. Around the same time, a Japanese animation studio called AXsiZ announced plans to adapt the light novel series into an anime television series and subsequently, Season 1 of Ulysses: Jeanne d’Arc and the Alchemist Knight premiered on October 7, 2018. While the anime adaptation received mixed reviews, it still managed to create its own fan base and fans have been waiting to hear news on a second season ever since. Here’s everything we know about the prospects of Season 2 thus far.

Ulysses: Jeanne d’Arc and the Alchemist Knight Season 2 Release Date: When will it premiere?

Ulysses: Jeanne d’Arc and the Alchemist Knight season 1, consisting of 12 episodes, premiered on October 7, 2018 and ran till December 30 of the same year. In spite of the show’s success in creating its own fan base, a second season has not been announced yet and it remains to be seen whether the show will get a second season.

Considering the fact that the light novel series has a total of eight volumes, there’s more than enough source material to base a second season on. While the existence of abundant source material would typically increase the chances of a second season being made, there are other factors which might work against the show. For one, the show was not very highly rated and was not among the most popular anime shows in Japan at the time of its release. Hence, it can also be assumed that the show failed to be a commercial success, and this, unfortunately, has a strong bearing on its future. If Ulysses: Jeanne d’Arc and the Alchemist Knight failed to generate enough revenue from Blu-Ray / DVD sales and streaming, AXsiZ might just cancel it because of financial reasons. However, the anime industry is an unpredictable one and we can’t say for sure what fate awaits Ulysses: Jeanne d’Arc and the Alchemist Knight till AXsiZ makes an official announcement on its future. We’re keeping our ears open for news on Ulysses: Jeanne d’Arc and the Alchemist Knight season 2 release date and we’ll update this section as soon as we hear something reliable.

Ulysses: Jeanne d’Arc and the Alchemist Knight Plot:

Being a historical fantasy show, Ulysses: Jeanne d’Arc and the Alchemist Knight is rooted in actual history but has fantastical elements.

The show is set in the 15th century, during the Hundred Years War between France and England. In this backdrop, it follows a young knight named Montmorency who dreams of becoming an alchemist and finding the mythical and elusive Philosopher’s Stone.

However, Montmorency’s dreams take a backseat when England occupies northern France and the young students of the Knights School are sent into battle against the formidable English forces. During this battle – the pivotal Battle of Azincourt – the English forces score a decisive victory, killing Montmorency’s love in the process.

Devastated, Montmorency turns his attention to try and stop the war. In his efforts, Montmorency performs an alchemic ritual that allows him to summon the Queen of the Fairies, Astaroth, who promises to help him become Ulysses – an immortal alchemist with unlimited power. In the years that follow, Montmorency keeps learning from Astaroth. However, when he encounters a dying young girl, he performs the Ulysses ritual to bring her back to life. This girl thus rises as the new Ulysses, and becomes known as Jeanne d’Arc – none other than the legendary French general who turned the tides of the Hundred Years war.

Ulysses: Jeanne d’Arc and the Alchemist Knight Characters:

While Ulysses: Jeanne d’Arc and the Alchemist Knight has several characters, there are only two main characters in the show. Below, we’ve provided you with brief backgrounds on each of them.

[WARNING: POSSIBLE SPOILERS AHEAD]

Montmorency: One of the two main protagonists of the show, Montmorency is a young alchemist who seeks the Philosopher’s Stone. After the tragic Battle of Azincourt, he summons the Queen of Fairies, Astaroth, who guides him to the Philosopher’s Stone and promises to help him become the immortal alchemist Ulysses. However, Montmorency uses half the stone to help a dying girl, who goes on to become Jeanne d’Arc. Having swallowed the other half of the stone, Montmorency, too, becomes Ulysses, and gains the power to turn wind and air into an unbreakable shield.

Jeanne d’Arc: The other protagonist of the show, Jeanne is a young girl from Domremy. After being mortally wounded by English forces, she is rescued by Montmorency and becomes Ulysses. Owing to having only half the Philosopher’s Stone in her body, Jeanne can become Ulysses for three minutes, but in these three minutes, she becomes an invincible fighter who is capable of turning the tide of any battle.
